Care and Maintenance
Be sure to store the telescope with the dust caps on. Please do not touch the lens or mirrors as
it’s very easy to scratch the coatings.
Do not attempt to clean the mirrors or eyepiece. Contact the library if they seem dirty.
Do not attempt to align the mirrors. If it seems that the telescope needs adjustment, please
contact the library.
Getting Started
Please read the instructions and practice with the telescope inside before you take it out in the
dark.
The finder scope was aligned by staff before checkout, but if you need to adjust it, it is
especially helpful to align the finder scope during the day.
Always place the telescope on a table or sturdy chair.
This is a manual telescope. You can watch the object move through your field of view (what
you see through the eye piece) and reposition the telescope as necessary. At higher
magnifications, the field of view becomes narrower and objects appear to move across the field
of view faster.
If you find that the telescope tube is either too hard to move or does not stay in place, use the
altitude adjustment tension knob to find the right level of tension.
