The Osmo Action 3 is a versatile action camera designed for capturing stable and immersive first-person perspectives, supporting recording at up to 4K/120fps. It incorporates a new generation of intelligent stabilization algorithms to effectively eliminate camera shake in all directions, ensuring smooth footage across various sports scenes. The camera features two touchscreens: a front screen optimized for vlogging and framing selfies, and a rear screen for real-time view finding. Both screens support common touch control functions, and users can quickly switch between shooting videos or pictures by pressing the physical buttons on the camera.
One of the key usage features of the Osmo Action 3 is its robust design, fully optimized for underwater use at depths of up to 16 meters (52 feet) without additional housing. For deeper dives beyond 16 meters, it is recommended to equip the camera with a waterproof case. The device also supports a wide range of accessories, enhancing its utility for various adventures, especially underwater.
To get started, users need to activate the device by downloading the DJI Mimo app, powering on the camera, connecting it to a mobile phone, and following the on-screen prompts. Powering the device on or off is done by pressing and holding the Quick Switch (QS) Button on the left side of the camera. A single press of the QS Button powers on the device or switches it to shooting mode. Connecting the device to a phone involves enabling Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the mobile device, launching DJI Mimo, and pairing the camera via Bluetooth.
The Osmo Action 3's Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) Technology is a standout feature, offering three distinct modes:
For audio, the Osmo Action 3 is designed with three microphones, providing exceptional audio performance and immersive results. Users can adjust reception direction for more targeted and accurate sound recording. A hidden microphone at the bottom of the Action 3 suppresses wind noise, making it suitable for windy or high-speed scenarios. External microphones, such as the DJI Mic, can be connected via the USB-C port for enhanced audio capture.
The camera also offers a "Scuba Diving Mode," which automatically activates when the camera is more than 14 meters underwater, locking the Shutter/Record Button. Recording can then be started or stopped using the Quick Switch button. Users can manually enable this mode by navigating through the Control Menu. "Custom Mode" allows users to save up to five sets of shooting parameters for quick recall and use in similar scenes.
For storing and exporting media, footage is stored on a microSD card (not included), and the camera cannot shoot without one. Recommended microSD cards include various SanDisk Extreme, Kingston Canvas Go!Plus, Kingston Canvas React Plus, and Samsung Pro Plus models. When inserting a microSD card, it is recommended to fit the card into the slot first, then attach the battery to avoid inadvertently inserting it into the battery compartment. Photos and videos can be downloaded to a phone for editing via DJI Mimo or transferred to a phone or computer using a USB-C cable.
Maintenance features include firmware updates, which are exclusively done via the DJI Mimo app. Users will be notified when new firmware is available and can follow on-screen instructions to update. The app language can be set to match the phone's system language, or manually reset within the DJI Mimo app for iOS users.
Charging the Osmo Action 3 can be done via its USB-C port, which supports PPS and PD fast charge protocols up to 23W. Alternatively, the Multifunctional Battery Case can be used, also supporting PPS and PD fast charge protocols up to 23W. When using a DJI 30W USB-C Charger, the camera can charge from 0% to 80% in 20 minutes and 0% to 100% in 49 minutes. Charging three batteries using the Multifunctional Battery Case takes 58 minutes to reach 80% and 120 minutes for a full charge. The device is designed with special attention to heat dissipation, conducting internal heat to the lens cover, front and rear screens, and body through heat sinks and silicone grease, ensuring the camera temperature remains within a reasonable range during long-term recording, even when shooting high-bitrate 4K/120fps videos.
Available accessories enhance the camera's functionality. The Multifunctional Battery Case stores three batteries and two microSD cards, intelligently fast-charges batteries, and can act as a power bank. The Adhesive Base Kit provides a strong connection for securely fixing the camera to various surfaces. The 1.5m Extension Rod Kit is compact, adjustable, and supports creative-angle shots, with a 1/4" threaded hole for accessory expansion. The Osmo Action Biking Accessory Kit includes chest strap and handlebar mounts. The Osmo Action 3 Waterproof Case provides protection up to 60 meters. When using the 1.5m Extension Rod with InvisiStick for skiing, the DJI Mimo app leverages cloud computing and AI algorithms to eliminate the selfie stick from footage, creating breathtaking results. The Horizontal-Vertical Protective Frame allows quick switches between horizontal and vertical mounting positions.
