The Osprey Poco AG™ Series child carrier is a thoughtfully designed line of carriers that integrates Osprey's extensive pack knowledge to provide comfort, support, ventilation, and ease of adjustment for both the child and the adult. These carriers are built to ensure the safety and comfort of your precious cargo, making them a reliable choice for parents on the go.
The Poco AG™ Series child carrier is designed to safely transport a single child while providing comfort and convenience for the adult wearer. It features a robust Anti-Gravity™ suspension system that includes a full-wrap aluminum tubing frame for lightweight yet stable heavy load carry. The Anti-Gravity™ AirSpeed™ backpanel utilizes 3D tensioned mesh that comfortably wraps and conforms to the body, offering excellent ventilation. The ExoForm™ harness provides a soft, edgeless mesh wrap for a breathable contact surface, and an adjustable sternum strap with a rescue whistle. The Anti-Gravity™ Fit-on-the-Fly™ hipbelt is also made with 3D tensioned mesh, conforming to the hip and lower back for ventilation and an adjustable fit.
The child cockpit is a deluxe, fully framed, and padded space designed for safety and comfort. It includes an adjustable Double Halo™ harness and child seat, soft contact surfaces, anatomical fit, and ventilated side panels. For sun protection, a built-in sunshade is easily deployed from its zippered pocket, offering quick UV protection. A soft, padded drool pad is located at the front of the cockpit for the child's comfort and can be removed for cleaning. Toy attachment loops are strategically placed within the cockpit to keep toys and pacifiers within the child's reach. Adjustable stirrups are provided for children at the top of the stated weight range, offering leg support to prevent circulation deprivation.
Storage is a key feature, with a lower zippered compartment available in all Poco AG™ styles for diapers and other essentials. The Poco AG™ Premium and Plus models offer an extra-large lower compartment, while the standard Poco AG™ has a large one. A small zippered stash pocket with a secure key clip is convenient for small items. An opening at the top of the backpanel allows for the storage of a water reservoir, ensuring easy hydration for both adult and child. Dual reinforced grab handles provide a secure and stable way to pick up and set down the child carrier.
Setting up the Poco AG™ child carrier involves a few simple steps. First, deploy the articulating footbar by pulling it back until an audible click is heard. If the sidearms are in the stored position, release the red male buckle from the lower grey female buckles, rotate the sidearms up, and insert the red end of each sidearm into the red cuff on both sides of the child's headrest. Finally, connect the red male buckle of the sidearms to the red female buckle of the cuffs to lock the cockpit into the child-carrying position. To store the carrier, reverse these steps.
Fitting the carrier to the adult is crucial for comfort and safety. Begin by loosening the harness, hipbelt, and load lifter straps. Put the pack on, center the hipbelt over the hipbones, and buckle and tighten it. The hipbelt should have 3-6 inches (8-15 centimeters) between its ends for a correct fit, which can be adjusted using the Fit-on-the-Fly™ hipbelt extensions. For proper torso fit, tighten the shoulder harness straps by pulling them down and back, ensuring the C7 vertebra (the bump at the base of your neck) is 1-2 inches (2.5-5 centimeters) above the top edge of the shoulder harness yoke. To adjust the torso length, take the pack off, loosen load lifters and harness straps, then locate and lift the torso adjustment cam to slide the shoulder harness up or down. Push the cam down to lock it in position.
Securing the child in the carrier involves preparing the cockpit by releasing the Double Halo™ child harness and slipping both straps into the plastic webbing keepers on the rear handle. This keeps the harness out of the way for easier child placement. For proper fit, the child's chin should be level with the top of the drool pad. To adjust the seat height, grab the red handle at the back of the seat and pull up to move it up (it will automatically lock), or pull up the red webbing loop at the base of the child's headrest and push the seat down to move it down. Once the seat is adjusted, place the child in the carrier, guiding one leg through each Double Halo™ leg loop. Unclip the child harness from the webbing keepers, guide the child's arms through the Double Halo™ arm loops, and insert the right and left harness male buckles into the dual-sided female buckle on the chest pad. Cinch down both straps snugly around the child's upper torso. To loosen the harness, pinch the buttons at the ends of the buckles and pull the chest pad away. Use the stirrups by placing the child's feet in them and adjusting the height so the knees are slightly bent.
Deploying the sunshade is straightforward: unzip its pocket, pull the webbing loop on top to extract the sunshade, align and press the hook and loop at the base and top of the pocket to secure it. Then, grab the two red tabs, pull them forward, and insert them into the sleeves at the front of the sidearms to secure and tighten the sunshade. To store it, pull the red tabs out of their sleeves, separate the hook and loop, slide the sunshade into the pocket, and zip it shut.
Putting on the child carrier with a child requires careful steps: ensure adult torso and hipbelt are fitted, child is secured, loosen one side of the harness (keeping the other tight), and unbuckle and loosen the adult hipbelt and sternum strap. Facing the adult backpanel, lift the carrier using both handles and place the frame onto a slightly bent knee. Slip the free arm through the tight harness strap, grab the shoulder strap, and lift the carrier onto one shoulder. While leaning forward to stabilize the weight, slip the other arm through the second shoulder harness. Buckle and tighten the hipbelt, then tighten the shoulder harness straps, load lifter straps, and sternum strap. To take off the carrier, ensure the footbar is deployed and reverse these steps.
Osprey recommends using Nikwax® products for pack care. Regular maintenance includes cleaning out the pack thoroughly after each trip. Zippers should be cleaned often with mild soap, warm water, and a soft brush to prevent failure. If the pack gets wet, hang it to dry before storing. When not in use, loosen all straps. The pack should be washed if dirt, sweat, salt, and stains have accumulated.
To wash the pack, first brush out and remove all gear, food, dirt, or spilled items. Do not use a washing machine. Instead, clean the pack and its components in a bathtub or large sink with a mild detergent and warm water. Gently agitate the pack and scrub all compartments and pockets inside and out with a soft brush. Clean all zippers and rinse the interior channels and exterior of all buckles. Drain the soapy water, refill with cool clean water, and rinse the pack thoroughly. Finally, hang the pack to dry outdoors or in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight.
The drool pad is removable for cleaning. To remove, unbuckle the upper drool pad buckles from the top of the backpanel and pull down on the drool pad to release the hook and loop at the lower corners. Clean it with warm water and mild detergent, then air dry in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. To reinstall, reverse these steps.
