CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Before cleaning, be sure unit is switched off and the cord is unplugged. Wipe the
appliance with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Do not immerse the appliance in liquids.
Your Coffeemaker must be cleaned when you begin to notice excessive steaming or the
brewing time increases considerably. This condition is caused by a build-up of lime and
mineral deposits from your water. If the pumping action stops before all the water has
been pumped out of the machine, the appliance requires cleaning.
The frequency of cleaning depends on the hardness of water used. The following table
gives a suggested cleaning schedule.
Suggested Cleaning Interval
Type of Water Cleaning Frequency
Soft Water Every 80 Brew Cycles
Hard Water Every 40 Brew Cycles
Clean Unit Using Vinegar
1) Fill carafe to the 4-cup line with undiluted white household vinegar. Lift lid and pour
vinegar into water reservoir. Place a filter into removable filter basket and close lid.
2) Place the empty carafe on the warming plate. Turn switch to “on” position. When three
cups have flowed through, turn coffee maker to “off.” and let stand for 30 minutes.
3) After 30 minutes, turn appliance switch to “on” and allow remaining vinegar pass
through coffee maker. Once the brew cycle is complete, discard the vinegar and filter.
4) To flush out vinegar, pour a carafe full of clean water into unit, turn switch to “on”
position and allow water to cycle through appliance. Discard water and turn coffee
maker OFF. Repeat Step 4 as needed.
Cleaning the Decanter
Hard water can leave a whitish stain on the decanter. Coffee may then turn this stain brown.
To remove decanter stains:
1) Fill the decanter with a solution of equal parts tap water and vinegar and let the
solution stand in the decanter for approximately 20 minutes.
2) Discard the solution and wash and rinse the decanter.
Do not use harsh abrasive cleansers that may scratch the decanter; scratches may
cause the decanter to break.
