1 Indications for use
The 4R140 Ottobock One-Way Valve may only be used for transtibial pros-
thetic ttings. It is not suitable for the use in swimming prostheses.
2 Indication
In combination with a PUR- or TPE-coated knee sleeve the 4R140 One-
Way Valve serves to create a vacuum in a transtibial socket, which helps to
minimize shearing and friction forces.
3 Description (Fig. 1)
The 4R140 One-Way Valve ejects excessive air out of the socket during
stance phase and closes during the swing phase to prevent further inow
of air. Thanks to this system, friction and shearing forces are minimized.
The 4R140 One-Way Valve consists of:
(1) One-Way Valve 5X115
(2) Securing Washer 507S37=M10
(3) Knurled Nut 502Z24=M10
(4) Dummy Set 5X116
(5) Dust Filter 5X118
4 Fabrication
Use the attached nails to afx the 5X116 Dummy to the plaster positive (Fig. 2).
Afterwards laminate the socket in the usual way. Drill a hole (Ø 10 mm ) in
the center of the Dummy area. Apply silicone bonding agent (617H46) to
the threaded part of the 5X115 One-Way Valve (Fig. 3) and press into the
bore hole. Seal from outside with 617H46 silicone bonding agent (Fig. 4).
Next, screw the 607S37=M10 securing washer and the 502Z24=M10 knurled
nut onto the threaded part of the valve (Fig. 5 and 6).
