Overview

The HG-08 HVLP Spray Gun is a manual spray gun designed for use with low to medium pressure applications and light to medium materials. It is versatile enough to handle a range of materials including enamels, latex, lacquers, and acrylics.

Function Description:

The HG-08 operates by atomizing paint or other coatings using compressed air, allowing for an even and controlled application. It is a gravity-feed system, meaning the fluid cup is positioned above the gun, allowing gravity to assist in feeding the material to the nozzle. The gun requires 2 to 4 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air at 20-40 PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) of air pressure, with the specific pressure depending on the thickness of the material being sprayed. Both the tip and needle are constructed from stainless steel, making the gun compatible with both water-based and solvent-based materials.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Part Number: HG-08
  • Type: HVLP Gravity Feed
  • Head Size: 0.8mm (Optional sizes: 0.5mm & 1mm are also available)
  • Air Volume Requirement: 2-4 CFM
  • Air Pressure Requirement: 20-40 PSI
  • Air Inlet: 1/4" NPT thread
  • Cup Size: 3 oz (27SC) (Optional 8 oz (28SC) is also available)
  • Spray Pattern: Adjustable from 1" to 7"
  • Weight: 0.90 Lbs
  • Finish: Blue / Silver

Usage Features:

The HG-08 offers several features for user control and adaptability:

  • Fluid Volume Adjustment: The fluid control knob allows the user to adjust the volume of material being sprayed, providing precise control over coating thickness.
  • Fan Pattern Adjustment: A dedicated fan control knob enables the user to modify the spray pattern from a narrow 1-inch stream to a wider 7-inch fan, accommodating different project sizes and shapes.
  • Trigger Stroke Adjustment: The trigger stroke adjustment knob (A) allows for fine-tuning of the trigger pull, which can influence the amount of material released.
  • Interchangeable Components: The availability of optional head sizes (0.5mm, 1mm), aircaps (05 & 10), fluid tips (05 & 10), and needles (05 & 10) allows for customization to suit various material viscosities and desired finishes. An optional 8oz fluid cup (28SC) is also available for larger projects.

Setup Procedure:

  1. Clean Air Lines: Before connecting the spray gun, blow out all airline hoses to remove any foreign particles.
  2. Connect Air Hose: Attach the air hose securely to the air inlet fitting (C).
  3. Connect Fluid Cup/Hose: Connect the fluid cup or fluid hose to the fluid inlet.
  4. Secure Connections: Ensure all hose connections are tightened securely to prevent leaks.
  5. Adjust Air Pressure: Set the air pressure to the required amount using a regulator, typically between 20-40 PSI.
  6. Adjust Fluid Volume: Turn the fluid control knob to set the desired fluid volume.
  7. Adjust Fan Pattern: Use the fan control knob (B) to set the desired spray pattern width.
  8. Test Spray: Perform a test spray on cardboard or newspaper to make final adjustments before applying to the actual project.

Maintenance Features:

Proper cleaning is crucial for the longevity and performance of the HG-08 spray gun:

  • Post-Use Cleaning: After each use, spray paint solvent through the gun to clear internal passages.
  • External Cleaning: Wipe the outside of the gun with clean solvent.
  • Avoid Immersion: Do not immerse the entire spray gun in solvent.
  • Aircap and Tip Cleaning: Dirty aircaps and tips should be cleaned by soaking them in solvent and then blowing them clean with air.

Safety Precautions:

  • Ventilation: Always use the spray gun in a well-ventilated area to remove fumes, dust, or overspray.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate personal safety equipment, including eye protection, and a mask or respirator compatible with the material being sprayed.
  • Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS): Consult the product label and MSDS for the spray material to understand potential hazards and follow all safety precautions.
  • Flammability: Be aware that spray materials can be highly flammable or combustible. Ensure adequate exhaust, prohibit smoking in the spray area, and have fire extinguishing equipment present.
  • Incompatible Materials: Halogenated hydrocarbon solvents (e.g., methylene chloride, 1,1,1-Trichloroethane) are not compatible with aluminum components and can cause violent chemical reactions. Ensure all equipment items are safe for use with the chosen solvents.
  • Secure Connections: Ensure air and fluid hose connections are wrench-tight to prevent leaks and ensure safety.
  • Training: Operators should be adequately trained in the safe use and maintenance of the equipment, complying with local and national codes, and insurance company requirements.
  • Cumulative Trauma Disorders (CTDs): Be mindful of symptoms like pain, tingling, or numbness in the shoulder, forearm, wrist, hands, or fingers, especially during the night, as these may be early signs of CTDs. Seek medical attention if symptoms occur and try to minimize factors that contribute to CTDs, such as high frequency, excessive force, awkward positions, prolonged duration, tool vibration, repeated pressure, and working in cold temperatures.
