Why Paccar Winch Winches will not hoist the rated load?
    • T
      thomaskarlAug 17, 2025
If your Paccar Winch Winches won't hoist the rated load, several factors could be responsible. The winch might be mounted on an uneven or flexible surface, distorting the base and binding the gear train, which absorbs horsepower and generates heat. Inadequate air system pressure, using a drum layer not rated for the load, inefficient rigging and sheaves, or an improperly adjusted band brake dragging on the winch drum could also be culprits. Reinforce the mounting surface and use shims to level the winch, if needed. Install a gauge at the air motor inlet to check air pressure. Refer to the winch performance charts in the sales brochure. Service the rigging as recommended by the crane manufacturer. Adjust the band brake as defined in the manual.

What to do if Paccar Winch Winches brake will not hold the load in neutral?
    • S
      Samuel MccormickAug 21, 2025
If the brake on your Paccar Winch Winches won't hold the load with the control lever in neutral, it could be due to a few reasons. Pressure might be trapped in the brake piston because of a faulty quick exhaust valve, the friction brake might not hold due to worn or damaged brake discs, or the brake clutch could be slipping. To troubleshoot, slowly loosen the fitting downstream of the quick exhaust valve to check if air is escaping, which would indicate a faulty valve. Disassemble the brake and inspect the brake discs for wear or damage. Drain the gear oil and flush with solvent, then completely drain the solvent and refill with the planetary gear oil specified in the manual.

How to prevent Paccar Winch Winches from running hot?
    • K
      Karen RogersAug 26, 2025
If your Paccar Winch Winches are running hot, it could be due to the same reasons that cause it to not hoist the rated load, such as mounting issues causing gear train binding. It also may be caused by damaged internal winch parts. You can find remedies related to mounting issues in section D1. Additionally, you should disassemble and inspect the winch for damaged internal parts.

Why wire rope does not spool smoothly on the drum of Paccar Winch Winches?
    • S
      smyersAug 28, 2025
If the wire rope on your Paccar Winch Winches isn't spooling smoothly on the drum, several factors could be the cause. The winch may be mounted too close to the main sheave, causing a fleet angle greater than 1-1/2 degrees, or it may not be mounted perpendicular to an imaginary line between the cable drum center and the first sheave. Using the wrong lay rope or overloading the winch, causing permanent set in the wire rope, could also be the problem. Check the mounting distance and fleet angle, and reposition the winch as needed. Consult a wire rope manufacturer for recommendations on the best wire rope for your application. Replace the wire rope and conduct operator/rigger training if the winch has been overloaded.

Why there are air leaks from the vent plug of Paccar Winch Winches?
    • A
      adamsbethSep 1, 2025
Air leaks from the vent plug on your Paccar Winch Winches may indicate a defective brake cylinder seal or motor shaft seal. To diagnose, perform an air pressure test by pressurizing the brake cylinder to 50 – 90 psi and ensuring it holds pressure. If the brake pressure holds, the motor shaft seal is likely the issue. Remove the motor to inspect the shaft seal.

What to do if Air Motor makes abnormal noise or runs hot in Paccar Winch Winches?
    • J
      james21Sep 5, 2025
If the air motor in your Paccar Winch Winches is making abnormal noises or running hot, it could be due to internal damage or moisture in the motor housing. Disassemble and inspect the motor for internal damage. Also, drain and refill the air motor oil, following the instructions in the manual's “Air Motor and Airline Oil” section.

How to prevent air line freezes in Paccar Winch Winches?
    • S
      Shelby GarciaSep 9, 2025
If the air line in your Paccar Winch Winches freezes, it is likely due to water in the air supply line. To resolve this, drain the air line moisture traps and disconnect the air lines to purge them with clean, dry air.

What to do if my Paccar Winch Winches will not lower the load smoothly?
    • K
      Kelly GlassNov 13, 2025
If your Paccar Winch Winches won't lower smoothly, several issues could be the cause. It could be due to a clogged brake release air line, a malfunctioning Quick Exhaust valve, or, on personnel handling units, a plugged orifice in the control valve elbow fitting. A defective brake cylinder seal, improper brake assembly (if recently rebuilt), or an improperly adjusted band brake dragging on the winch drum could also be the problem. To troubleshoot, install a gauge in the brake release line downstream of the quick exhaust valve to ensure pressure exceeds 45 psi. Perform an air pressure test, pressurizing the brake cylinder to 50 – 90 psi. If the cylinder won't hold pressure, the seal is defective. Disassemble and inspect the brake, ensuring the correct number of brake plates and friction dis...
