Overview

This document provides a comprehensive user guide for the Pace XG1-P digital set-top box, covering models PX001BNT and PX001BNM. It details the device's functions, usage, and maintenance, ensuring users can operate it safely and effectively.

The Pace XG1-P is a digital set-top box designed to deliver high-definition programming and advanced entertainment features to your home. Its primary function is to receive and decode cable television signals, providing a wide range of digital channels and services. The device is equipped with an internal hard disk for recording programs, allowing users to pause, rewind, and record live TV, as well as schedule future recordings. An external hard disk can also be connected via the eSATA port for additional storage capacity.

Usage Features:

The set-top box offers several usage features to enhance the viewing experience. The front panel includes a display that shows the current time, channel number, and user settings. Indicator lights provide visual feedback on the device's status:

  • Remote light: Illuminates when a button on the remote control is pressed (green for an RF remote, red for an IR remote).
  • Data light: Lights up when a message has been received.
  • Record light: Indicates when a recording is in progress, either to the internal or an external hard disk.
  • Power light: Glows green when the set-top box is on and is unlit when off.
  • Power button: Used to turn the set-top box on and off.

Connecting the set-top box to your home entertainment system is straightforward, with various options available on the rear panel. For high-definition viewing, the device supports HDMI connections, which provide the highest quality picture and digital audio. If your HDTV does not have an HDMI connector, component video (YPbPr) connections are also supported for high-definition output. Standard definition video output is available via composite video.

Audio connections include digital audio outputs (electrical coaxial and optical S/PDIF) for connecting to a home theater receiver or audio decoder, ensuring high-quality sound. Analog stereo audio outputs (L and R) are also provided for connection to stereo TVs, VCRs, or amplifiers.

The set-top box can be integrated into a home network via an Ethernet port, enabling potential future services or features depending on your cable service provider. USB ports are available for connecting to USB devices, and 1394 ports (FireWire) allow connection to 1394-compatible devices. A CableCARD™ module slot is present, and its removal will interrupt service, indicating its role in securing content access.

Turning the device on and off is simple: after connecting the power supply unit to a wall AC outlet, press the Power button on the front panel or remote control. The green power light will confirm that the device is on. To turn it off, press the Power button again. It is crucial to properly shut down the set-top box before disconnecting it from the power supply, especially if recordings are in progress, to prevent damage to the internal hard disk. Always wait 60 seconds after turning off the device before unplugging the power supply unit.

Maintenance Features:

Maintaining the Pace XG1-P involves adhering to safety guidelines and proper handling procedures to ensure its longevity and safe operation. The device is designed for use with the Pace-approved power supply unit; using an unapproved alternative will invalidate the warranty.

Safety and Installation:

  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation by maintaining a minimum distance of three inches around the set-top box. Do not block ventilation openings with objects like beds, sofas, rugs, newspapers, table-cloths, or curtains. Place the device on a hard, flat surface and avoid placing it directly on top of or underneath other heat-producing equipment like stereo amplifiers or televisions.
  • Power Sources: Connect the set-top box only to the type of power source indicated on its marking label. Avoid overloading wall AC outlets, extension cords, or other power outlets, as this can lead to fire or electric shock. All AC power cords must be plugged into properly wired and grounded outlets.
  • Water and Moisture: Do not expose the set-top box to rain or moisture, dripping or splashing liquids. Ensure no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, are placed on the device.
  • Entry of Objects and Liquids: Never push objects of any kind into the set-top box's openings, as this can cause electric shock or fire. Do not spill any liquid on the device.
  • Lightning Storms: During lightning storms or when the device is left unattended for long periods, disconnect the power supply unit from the wall AC outlet to protect it from potential damage. If the device appears to stop working after a storm, unplug and then replug the power supply unit to restore operation.
  • Servicing: The set-top box contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not remove the cover. All servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel. Unauthorized servicing will invalidate the warranty. A tamper-evident label on the rear panel warns that the warranty is void if broken or removed.
  • Transporting: Handle the set-top box carefully, especially when moving it while connected to the power supply, to avoid damage to the internal hard disk. Stop any recordings, turn off the device, and wait 60 seconds before disconnecting the power supply unit.

The installation of the set-top box should be carried out by a qualified installer in accordance with local codes, particularly Section 820 of the National Electrical Code (USA) regarding cable grounding.
