Overview

This document describes the Panasonic FV-0511VKL2, FV-1115VKL2, and FV-0511VKSL2 ventilating fans, which are designed for continuous and spot ventilation to maintain healthy indoor air quality. These models are UL listed for tub and shower enclosures and are not to be installed in ceilings thermally insulated to a value greater than R60.

Function Description

These ventilating fans utilize a sirocco fan driven by a DC motor, powered by an integral transformer. The DC motor is designed for long operating life, high dynamic response, and higher speed ranges while saving energy. The fans are equipped with Smart Flow microchip technology, which monitors static pressure in the system and adjusts the fan's RPM to maintain rated performance despite duct length, elbows, and other factors that can increase static pressure. This feature helps avoid potential installation issues and ensures consistent airflow.

The grille covering the fan body is a spring-loaded, quick-remove type, facilitating easy access for maintenance. A damper is provided to prevent air counter-flow. The blower uses a high-capacity sirocco fan to reduce noise levels.

For models FV-0511VKL2 and FV-0511VKSL2, a 10W LED lighting unit is integrated, providing illumination comparable to a standard 40W incandescent lamp. These models also include a night light feature that consumes approximately 0.1 to 0.4W.

The fans are designed for both continuous and spot ventilation. They can run continuously at pre-set lower CFM levels (0, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100 CFM for FV-0511VKSL2/VKL2; 0, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 110, 120 CFM for FV-1115VKL2) to meet ventilation standards. When equipped with the optional Multi-Speed module, these fans can boost to a maximum of 110 CFM (FV-0511VKSL2/VKL2) or 150 CFM (FV-1115VKL2) for intermittent spot ventilation needs. This boost can be activated by a switch, an optional Condensation Sensor module, or an optional Motion Sensor module. A High/Low Delay Timer, located inside the fan unit, allows the fan to return to the pre-set continuous ventilation mode after a user-defined delay (0-60 minutes).

Usage Features

The fans offer a "Pick-A-Flow" feature, allowing users to select a desired CFM level (50, 80, 110 CFM for FV-0511VKSL2/VKL2; 110, 130, 150 CFM for FV-1115VKL2) via a switch on the fan's face. This setting can be continuous or intermittent.

Optional "Plug 'N Play" modular component accessories, sold separately, enhance functionality:

  • Multi-Speed Module (FV-VS15VK1): This module enables continuous low-speed operation for indoor air quality and boosts to high speed for spot ventilation. The module allows selection of airflow levels (CFM) and a time delay (0-60 minutes) before returning to low speed. When a Pick-A-Flow setting is chosen, the Multi-Speed settings automatically adjust. For example, if Pick-A-Flow is set to 80 CFM, the Multi-Speed settings adjust to 0, 30, 40, 50, 60, or 70 CFM for lower speeds, and the fan boosts to 80 CFM as the high-speed setting.
  • Condensation Sensor Module (FV-CSVK1): This module turns the fan on or boosts to a higher speed when humidity is detected, particularly when combined with the Multi-Speed module. It anticipates condensation formation based on psychrometric chart calculations (Relative Humidity and Temperature). The sensor is pre-set to run for 20 minutes and then re-checks conditions. The humidity selector range is 30% to 80% RH, with a factory setting of 50% RH. The timer preset selector allows delays from 0.5 to 60 minutes.
  • Motion Sensor Module (FV-MSVK1): This module turns the fan on or boosts to a higher speed when motion is detected, especially when used with the Multi-Speed module. It is pre-set to run for 20 minutes and then re-checks for movement. The sensor detects motion within a 10-foot (3m) range and a 90° field of view (at 25°C room temperature).

Combinations of these modules offer integrated control:

  • FV-CSVK1 + FV-MSVK1: Turns the fan on for 20 minutes when either motion or excess humidity is detected.
  • FV-CSVK1 + FV-VS15VK1: Cycles the fan to high speed from low speed based on excess humidity detection, with the duration set by the control dial.
  • FV-MSVK1 + FV-VS15VK1: Cycles the fan to high speed from low speed based on motion detection, with the duration set by the control dial.

Maintenance Features

Routine maintenance, including cleaning, should be performed annually. Users are advised to wear gloves during cleaning.

Cleaning Procedure:

  1. Remove Grille: Pull down one mounting spring, then the other. Carefully squeeze the mounting springs and pull down.
  2. Clean Grille: Use a non-abrasive kitchen detergent and wipe dry with a clean cloth. Do not use hot water.
  3. Dry Grille: Ensure the grille is completely dry before reinstallation.
  4. Remove Dust from Fan Body: Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust and dirt from the fan body.
  5. Clean Fan Body: Use a cloth dampened with kitchen detergent to remove any remaining dirt, then wipe dry with a clean cloth.
  6. Reinstall Grille: Insert the grille mounting springs into the slots on the fan body.

Important Maintenance Notes:

  • Always disconnect the power source before servicing or cleaning the unit. Lock the service disconnecting means to prevent accidental power-on.
  • Never use gasoline, benzene, thinner, or other harsh chemicals for cleaning.
  • Do not immerse the motor in water.
  • Do not soak resin parts in water over 140°F (60°C).
  • Do not use cleaning sprays, solvents, or water on or near the sensors.
