Overview

This document provides operating instructions for the Panasonic RB-HF520B and RB-HF420B digital wireless stereo headphones.

Function Description

These headphones are designed for wireless audio playback and phone calls via Bluetooth® technology. They support "A2DP" (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) for transmitting audio and "AVRCP" (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) for remote control of the connected device. For phone calls, the headphones utilize the "HFP" (Hands-Free Profile), allowing users to answer and end calls using the unit's buttons. The headphones also feature voice functions, enabling activation of Siri or other voice assistants on the connected device.

Usage Features

Powering On/Off: To turn the headphones on, press and hold the [◎] button for approximately 3 seconds until the blue LED blinks. A beep will sound, and the blue LED will blink slowly. To turn them off, press and hold the [◎] button for about 3 seconds; an English guidance message will be heard, and the power will turn off. If not connected to a Bluetooth® device, the unit will automatically turn off after approximately 5 minutes of disuse.

Bluetooth® Connection (Pairing):

  1. Preparation: Place the Bluetooth® device within approximately 1 meter of the headphones.
  2. Pairing (Registration):
    • In the power-off state, press and hold the [◎] button until the LED blinks. For first-time pairing, hold for approx. 3 seconds; for subsequent devices, hold for approx. 5 seconds. The LED will light alternately in blue and red, indicating the unit is searching for a Bluetooth® device.
    • Turn on your Bluetooth® device and enable its Bluetooth® function.
    • Select "RB-HF520B" or "RB-HF420B" from your device's Bluetooth® menu. If prompted for a passkey, enter "0000".
    • Once connected, the LED (blue) will blink twice every approx. 2 seconds.
  3. Connecting a Paired Device: Turn on the headphones by pressing and holding [◎] for approx. 3 seconds. The unit remembers the last connected device and may automatically establish a connection. If not, follow steps 2 and 3 of the pairing process. The headphones can be paired with up to 8 Bluetooth® devices. If a 9th device is paired, the oldest connection will be replaced.

Listening to Music:

  1. Connect the Bluetooth® device and the headphones.
  2. Select and play music on your Bluetooth® device. The audio will be output through the headphones. The maximum playback time is approximately 50 hours, though this may vary with usage conditions.
    • Remote Controlling:
      • Play/Pause: Press [◎].
      • Increase Volume: Press [+].
      • Decrease Volume: Press [–].
      • Forward to next track: Press and hold [+] for approximately 2 seconds.
      • Return to current track start: Press and hold [–] for approximately 2 seconds.
    • Volume can be adjusted in 17 levels, with a beep indicating maximum or minimum volume.
    • Be aware that sound may leak depending on volume, and distortion may occur at maximum levels.

Making a Phone Call:

  1. Connect the Bluetooth® enabled phone and the headphones.
  2. Answering a Call: Press [◎] on the unit when a call comes in. A ringtone will sound, and the LED will blink.
  3. Rejecting a Call (HFP only): Press [◎] twice quickly.
  4. Talking: The LED will blink twice repeatedly during a call. Volume can be adjusted as with music playback.
  5. Ending a Call: Press [◎]. A beep will sound.
    • Note that phone conversations might be difficult in noisy or windy environments. You can switch the calling device to the Bluetooth® enabled phone by pressing [◎] twice quickly.
    • You can also use the headphone's microphone with a phone app to make calls.

Useful Functions:

  • Activating Voice Functions: Connect the Bluetooth® device and the headphones, then press [◎] twice quickly to activate Siri or other voice functions on your device.
  • Battery Level Notification: When the unit is turned off, an English guidance message will indicate the battery level. As the battery runs low, the blue LED will turn red and blink, with a beep every minute. When the battery is depleted, an English guidance message will be heard, and the power will turn off.
  • Guidance Messages: The unit provides audio notifications for actions like powering off, connecting a Bluetooth® device, or changing settings. These cannot be disabled or have their volume adjusted.

Charging: The internal rechargeable battery is not initially charged.

  1. Connect the supplied USB charging cord to the charging terminal (DC IN) on the headphones and to a computer's USB port.
  2. The LED will light red during charging and turn off when charging is complete.
  3. A full charge from empty takes approximately 4 hours.
    • Charging occurs best at room temperatures between 10 °C and 35 °C.
    • The headphones cannot be turned on while charging.
    • Only use the supplied USB charging cord.

Restoring to Factory Settings: To delete all pairing information and restore default settings:

  1. While the unit is off, press and hold [◎] for at least 5 seconds until the LED lights alternately in blue and red.
  2. While the LED is alternately lighting in blue and red, press and hold [+] and [–] simultaneously for at least 5 seconds. The unit will turn off after the blue LED blinks fast.
    • After restoring, delete the headphone's registration from your Bluetooth® device and re-pair if you wish to use them again.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: Clean the unit with a dry and soft cloth. Avoid using solvents like benzine, thinner, alcohol, kitchen detergent, or chemical wipers, as these can deform the exterior case or remove the coating.

Keeping Battery Performance: For long periods of disuse, fully charge the unit once every 6 months to maintain battery performance.

Folding the Unit: The headphones can be folded for storage. Ensure the USB charging cord is disconnected before folding to prevent malfunction.

Resetting the Unit: If all operations are rejected, the unit can be reset by connecting it to a computer using the USB charging cord. This action will not delete pairing device information.

Battery Removal for Disposal: The manual provides detailed instructions for safely removing the battery when disposing of the unit. This process involves disassembling the right ear pad, removing screws and a plate, cutting cords, and carefully pushing the battery out with a non-pointy object. This is for disposal purposes only, as the unit is not restorable once disassembled. Always insulate battery terminals and dispose of batteries according to local regulations.
