Overview

The PassTime Elite 6 is a starter interrupt device designed to prevent unauthorized vehicle starts. It offers flexible configuration options for its internal relay, allowing it to operate in either a "Normally Open" or "Normally Closed" manner. This adaptability is crucial for compatibility with various vehicle wiring types and can be set based on business preferences. The configuration is determined by the connection state of the GRAY "Option" wire.

Function Description:

  • Starter Interrupt: The core function of the Elite 6 is to interrupt the starter circuit, preventing the vehicle from starting under specific conditions.
  • Normally Open Configuration: In this mode, when the Elite device is idle, the "Start In" (Blue) and "Start Out" (Purple) wires, which connect/interrupt the circuit between the key switch and the starter, are disconnected or "open."
    • Permitted Start: When a start is permitted, the Elite device activates, connecting these wires to allow the engine to start.
    • Disabled Start: If a start is disabled, the connection remains open, effectively preventing the engine from starting.
    • Wiring: In this configuration, the GRAY "Option" wire and GREEN "Start Out" wires are left disconnected. The PURPLE wire is connected to the starter output.
  • Normally Closed Configuration: In this mode, when the Elite device is idle, the "Start In" (Blue) and "Start Out" (Green) wires are connected or "closed."
    • Permitted Start: For a permitted start, the Elite device leaves the connection intact, allowing the engine to start.
    • Disabled Start: If a start is disabled, the Elite device activates to interrupt the connection, thereby preventing the engine from starting.
    • Wiring: In this configuration, the GRAY "Option" wire is grounded, and the PURPLE "Start Out" wire is left disconnected. The GREEN wire is connected to the starter output.

Important Technical Specifications and Wiring:

The Elite 6 device features several key wires, each with a specific function:

  • Red (Battery) Wire: Provides constant power to the device. It is recommended to install an inline 3A fuse (glass or plastic type) as close to the connection point as possible to protect against potential damage.
  • Pink (Ignition) Wire: Remains powered while the engine is cranking and running. An inline 3A fuse is also recommended for this lead.
  • Black (Ground) Wire: Connects to the chassis ground. It is crucial to attach this wire to a metal chassis hardpoint rather than a wire that merely appears to be ground, as perceived ground wires can sometimes become energized.
  • Blue (Starter In) Wire: Connects to the key switch side of the starter circuit.
  • Purple (Starter Out) Wire: Used in the "Normally Open" configuration to connect to the starter motor side of the circuit.
  • Green (Starter Out) Wire: Used in the "Normally Closed" configuration to connect to the starter motor side of the circuit.
  • Gray (Option) Wire: This wire determines the device's configuration (Normally Open or Normally Closed).
    • Normally Open: Left disconnected.
    • Normally Closed: Grounded.
  • Orange/White (Option Out) Wire: Reserved for future use.

Usage Features:

  • Flexible Configuration: The ability to switch between "Normally Open" and "Normally Closed" modes makes the Elite 6 adaptable to various vehicle electrical systems and business requirements.
  • Permitted/Disabled Start Control: Provides precise control over vehicle starting, allowing for authorized use while preventing unauthorized attempts.

Maintenance Features and Precautions:

  • Fuse Protection: The manual strongly recommends adding inline 3A fuses to both the Red (Battery) and Pink (Ignition) leads. These fuses should be placed as close to the connection point as possible to protect the wiring and the Elite device from damage due to nicks, pinches, or contact with metal.
  • Grounding Best Practices: Always attach the Black (Ground) wire to a metal chassis hardpoint. Avoid using wires that merely test as ground, as they may become energized later.
  • Unused Wire Management: It is critically important to leave the butt connectors on any unused wires (e.g., GRAY and GREEN in Normally Open mode, or PURPLE in Normally Closed mode) attached. This prevents accidental contact of exposed wire tips to ground, which could cause malfunctions or damage.
  • Installation Location: PassTime recommends installing the device as high in the dash as possible. This placement ensures optimal antenna performance and helps deter tampering. Recommended locations include:
    • Above or behind the instrument cluster.
    • Above any accessible air vents.
    • Above or behind the radio.
  • LED Orientation: When mounting the device, the LEDs must face upwards.
  • Obstruction Avoidance: The device should not be obstructed by metal above it, as this can interfere with its operation and antenna performance.

The Elite 6 is designed for professional installation, and installers are responsible for ensuring proper setup according to the vehicle's specific wiring and the desired operational mode. The device aims to provide a reliable and secure starter interrupt solution with built-in safeguards and flexible configuration options.
