Do you have a question about the PAXSTER XL L7e-CU and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Paxster XL is an electric four-wheel light motorcycle designed for last-mile logistics and postal and packaging distribution. It is also available in customized versions for various delivery types, including hospital supply, food delivery, battery transport, and as a film camera platform. The vehicle is approved for both outdoor and indoor use and is road-legal.

Function Description

The Paxster XL is propelled by a 3-phase 48V electric PMAC motor, which drives the rear wheels via a differential gearbox. The maximum output power of the motor is 8.43 kW for the L7e-CU homologation variant. The steering system is a direct mechanical system operated by a steering bar, similar to ATVs (Quads), without power steering.

The vehicle features three brake systems:

  • Brake pedal: Operates all four wheels via a 2-circuit hydraulic system (Circuit 1: front axle | Circuit 2: rear axle).
  • Regenerative brake: Electrically operates the rear wheels and is applied automatically when the brake handle or pedal is slightly operated, the throttle is released beyond the idle area, on declines if vehicle speed exceeds the maximum allowed speed, or when switching between forward and reverse while keeping the throttle pulled. It also engages if the speed is above 5 km/h and a severe error in the drive train is detected.
  • APBU (Automatic Park Brake Unit): An electromagnetic system that operates the rear wheels. It engages automatically when the speed is zero and no throttle input is given, when no person is detected on the seat, when speed is less than 5 km/h and no person is detected on the seat, or if 12V voltage is lost.

The electrical system is powered by a 48V LiFePo4 (LFP) traction battery (available in 6.0 kWh, 8.1 kWh, and 10 kWh capacities) for the drive train and an auxiliary 12V DC Lead Acid / AGM battery (18Ah capacity) for other consumers like lights, outlets, and switches. The traction battery is located beneath the seat, and the auxiliary battery is behind a vertical panel in front of the seat.

Usage Features

  • Charging: Equipped with an onboard charger, connected to a grounded 230V AC grid via various charging cables (Type 1 to Schuko, Type 1 to Type 2, Type 1 to UK plug). The charging indicator flashes to show charging mode and potential errors.
  • Controls: Left handle (optionally heated), left control unit (reverse switch, full beam switch, warning lights switch, direction indicator switch, horn switch), main instrument (displays speed, motor temperature, state of charge, mileage, drive state, warning/indicator lights), throttle (integrated into right handle grip), brake pedal, ignition lock and keys, key fob (optional remote control).
  • Drive Modes: Offers "High," "Eco," and "Winter" modes. Eco mode is recommended for optimal energy efficiency. High mode is for steep inclines or starting on inclines at low speeds (up to 6 km/h). Winter mode reduces regenerative braking and acceleration for slippery conditions.
  • Safety Features: 3-point safety belt, rigid seat belt structure, safety glass windscreen, soft plastic impact zones, optional warning beacon, reverse signal, optional reverse camera, seat switch (prevents unintended movement if no operator is detected).
  • Cargo Access: Rear cargo compartment accessed via rear doors and two lateral doors. Front cargo area is customizable. Side compartments for personal equipment.

Maintenance Features

  • Scheduled Maintenance: Paxster XL vehicles have defined maintenance intervals of 1 year, with checklists up to 96 months. Two schedules are provided: Schedule 1 for demanding conditions (dusty, rough, muddy, salt-spread roads, last-mile applications) and Schedule 2 for less demanding conditions.
  • 6-month maintenance: Rotate tires, replace reduction gear oil, inspect axle, suspensions, brakes, front suspension, ball joints, steering linkage.
  • 12-month maintenance: Safety check, replace Key-Fob battery, rotate tires, drive test, EV System Analysis & Report, inspect axle, suspensions, brake lines, cables, brake pads, rotors, charging port, charging cable, reduction gear oil, front suspension ball joints, steering linkage, ball joints.
  • 24-month maintenance: Similar to 12-month, but with additional checks.
  • 36-month maintenance: Includes brake fluid replacement.
  • 48-month maintenance: Comprehensive checks including reduction gear oil and brake fluid replacement.
  • 60-month maintenance: Extensive checks of all systems.
  • Cleaning: Recommendations for cleaning plastic surfaces, windscreen, wind deflectors, floor, and interior. Emphasizes using mild cleaners and avoiding high-pressure washing in internal areas.
  • Wheels: Guidelines for replacing wheels, including proper tightening of wheel nuts (100 Nm torque) and checking tire pressure (1.8-2.0 bar).
  • Brake Fluid: DOT 4 brake fluid. Level checks by service staff or user by opening the right-side hatch.
  • Troubleshooting: Provides solutions for common issues like the vehicle not starting (charger disconnected, throttle fault, seat fault, empty battery) and charging errors.
