This document describes the Performance Tool Transmission Adaptor (Stock Number W41044), a device designed for the removal and installation of passenger car and light-duty truck transmissions. It is intended for use with a heavy-frame service jack that has a removable saddle.
Function Description
The Transmission Adaptor serves as an attachment for a service jack, providing a stable and adjustable platform for handling transmissions during removal and installation. It allows for precise positioning and secure handling of the transmission, enhancing safety and efficiency during automotive repair tasks. The adaptor features an adjustable tilt knob, pivot frames, and mounting brackets to accommodate various transmission sizes and angles.
Important Technical Specifications
- Capacity: 300 lb.
- Compatibility: Designed for use with heavy-frame service jacks that have a removable saddle.
- Components:
- Platform (1): The main support surface for the transmission.
- Adjustable Tilt Knob (2): Allows for precise angular adjustment of the platform.
- Threaded Bushing (3): Used in conjunction with the tilt knob for adjustment.
- Non-Threaded Bushing (4): Facilitates pivoting movement.
- Pivot Frame (5): Connects the platform to the mounting brackets, allowing for tilt.
- Pivot Pin (6): Secures the platform to the pivot frame.
- Mounting Bracket Frame (7) & Mounting Bracket (8): Attach the adaptor to the service jack saddle frame.
- Chain Hook Assembly (9) & Safety Chain (10): Used to secure the transmission to the platform.
- Fasteners: Includes various bolts (M10 x 25, M8 x 25), nuts (M10, M8, Lock Nut with Set Screw), washers (M10, M8, Large Retaining Washer), and snap rings (Large, Small) for assembly and securement.
- Spacer (21): Used in the assembly of the pivot mechanism.
Usage Features
- Application: Specifically for the removal and installation of passenger car and light-duty truck transmissions.
- Weight Limit: Must not be overloaded beyond 300 lbs.
- Restrictions:
- Do not remove or install transmissions with transfer cases attached.
- The jack must be in a fully lowered position when moving a loaded adaptor to maintain stability.
- Safety Chain: Always secure the transmission in place with the provided safety chain to prevent accidental dislodgement.
- Service Jack Compatibility: Exclusively for use with heavy-frame service jacks that have a removable saddle. Users must read, understand, and follow all warnings in the jack's instruction manual.
- Vehicle Support: The vehicle must be properly supported before starting any repair work. Refer to the vehicle owner's manual for correct jacking procedures.
- Surface Requirements: The unit is designed for use only on hard, level surfaces capable of sustaining the load. Using it on uneven or soft surfaces can lead to instability and potential loss of load.
- Adjustable Tilt: The Adjustable Tilt Knob (2) allows for fine-tuning the angle of the platform, which is crucial for aligning the transmission during installation or removal.
- Assembly Process:
- Install Threaded Bushing (3) into Platform (1) using Large Snap Rings (11).
- Screw Adjustable Tilt Knob (2) halfway through the threaded bushing.
- Install two Lock Nuts (13A) approximately 3 inches from the end of the threaded shaft.
- Install Non-Threaded Bushing (4) into Pivot Frame (5) using Large Snap Rings (11).
- Slide Non-Threaded Bushing onto the threaded shaft and install the remaining Lock Nut (13B).
- Connect Platform (1) to Pivot Frame (5) using Pivot Pin (6), Small Snap Rings (12), and Spacers (21).
- Bolt on Mounting Bracket Frames (7) and Mounting Brackets (8).
- Install Chain Hook Assembly (9) and Safety Chain (10).
- Install the assembled adaptor onto the Service Jack Saddle Frame, securing it with Bolt (14) and Washer (20).
