7. Install the starter. Carefully slide the starter into position keeping the armature
and housing together with the brush housing. Start the two long bolts and tighten
evenly alternating back and forth - torque to 49 in. lbs. DO NOT USE AIR TOOLS
ON THESE SCREWS!
8. Install the battery cable and tighten the nut on the starter motor stud - DO NOT
OVERTIGHTEN ~ WARRANTY WILL BE VOID IF OVERTIGHTENED AND
STARTER IS INTERNALLY SHORTED OUT.
9. Reconnect the battery cables and test the starter. Never run a starter for more
than 20 seconds at a time as this will overheat the starter and can cause it to
burn out. If the bike does not start within 20 seconds, allow the starter to cool
before trying again.
