Overview

The PetSafe Automatic Ball Launcher (models PTY17-15849 and PTY19-15850) is designed to enhance the relationship between pets and their owners by providing an interactive fetch experience. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, offering various settings to customize play.

Function Description:

The Automatic Ball Launcher automatically throws standard-sized tennis balls, allowing dogs to play fetch independently or with supervision. It features multiple safety sensors to protect both pets and people during operation. The device also incorporates an automatic rest mode to prevent dogs from overworking themselves. A launch tone sounds just prior to a ball being thrown, alerting the dog.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Ball Capacity: Holds up to 3 standard-sized tennis balls (comes with 2 tennis balls).
  • Ball Size: Designed for standard-sized tennis balls, 6.67 cm in diameter.
  • Launch Distance: Adjustable from 2.5 to 9 meters.
  • Launch Angle: Adjustable with 6 settings, ranging from 20 to 45 degrees.
  • Power: Can be powered by 6 D-cell alkaline batteries (not included) or a universal power cord and AC adaptor (included). For optimal indoor use, the power cord is recommended. Outdoor use should be with batteries only.
  • Motion Sensor: Detects movement up to 2 meters away, pausing launches for 5 seconds if motion is detected in the launch area.
  • Safety Sensor: Detects foreign objects in the launch pocket to prevent launches and ensure safety.
  • Ball Detection Sensor: Detects when a tennis ball is in the launch pocket, triggering the launch tone.
  • Rest Mode: After 15 minutes of continuous play (initiated by a ball drop), the machine enters a 15-minute rest mode to prevent overexertion. This cycle repeats until the unit is turned OFF.
  • Hopper Height: Approximately 28 cm from the ground, suitable for dogs capable of picking up and dropping a standard tennis ball.

Usage Features:

  • Adjustable Settings: The "Paw Knob" adjusts the launch angle (6 settings, anti-clockwise for higher angles, clockwise for lower angles), and the "Tennis Ball Knob" adjusts the launch distance (9 settings, anti-clockwise for longer distances, clockwise for shorter distances).
  • Indoor/Outdoor Use: Specifically designed for both environments. For indoor use, the lowest angle and distance settings are recommended.
  • Training Guide: Includes instructions for introducing the dog to the launcher, teaching them to drop the ball into the hopper, and familiarizing them with the launch tones and operation.
  • Safety Precautions: Users are advised to stand to the side or 2 meters away from the front of the unit when it is ON. Hands and body should never be placed inside the working area, hopper, or launch pocket. The Safety Sensor should never be touched or disabled.
  • LED and Tone Indicators: Provide feedback on the unit's status, including ON/Play Mode, Rest Mode, Ball Detection and Launch, Motion Detection, Low Battery, Good Battery, and Error conditions.
  • Independent Play: Recommended to load one tennis ball at a time for independent play or when using higher settings.
  • Multiple Dogs: No limit to how many dogs can use the launcher at once, but 3 or fewer dogs are suggested for a more enjoyable game.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The Ball Launcher should not be submerged in water. It can be wiped down with a damp cloth. Water should not be poured into the unit.
  • Sensor Cleaning: To clean the Safety Sensor in the launch pocket, turn the power OFF, then use a cotton swab or small brush to wipe the sensor clean. Do not place hands inside the launch pocket during cleaning.
  • Storage: When not in use, the unit should be turned OFF and stored safely away, not left outdoors.
  • Battery Disposal: Separate collection of spent batteries is required in many regions. Users should check local regulations and contact the Customer Care Center for proper disposal instructions.
  • Recycling Advice: The equipment must be recycled according to Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment regulations. Users should return it to the place of purchase or contact the Customer Care Centre for recycling information.
  • Power Cord Care: The power cord should be used at the owner's discretion. It should not be used if the dog has a history of chewing power cords, and it is not suitable for outdoor use.
