General Instructions

Connecting to the Mains

Connect the Dictation System to a power socket using the supplied power supply unit.

Switching On and Off

Press the Power key (3) located on the left-hand side of the machine to switch it on or off.

Cassette Compartment

Open the cassette compartment (12) by flipping it with your finger.

Voice Activation (VA)

Set the VA switch to enable voice-activated recording.

Autorewind

Set the AR switch to utilize the 730's automatic scan function.

Loudspeaker

This switch setting determines listening via the 730's built-in loudspeaker or headphones.

Automatic Backspace (ABS)

The ABS slider (10) provides control over the automatic backspace function during transcription.

Loading a Cassette

Insert Mini-Cassettes into the tape drive with the tape oriented as shown by the cassette symbol.

Wind / Rewind

Use the WIND key (9) to wind tape forward at 20x speed, or REWIND key (7) to rewind.

Playback

Press the STOP/PLAY key (8) to initiate playback of a recording.

Volume / Tone / Speed

Adjust the volume and tone sliders (5&6) to optimize playback quality.

Cassette Tray

The cassette tray (1) holds currently used cassettes for convenient access.

Dictation

Microphone Connection

Connect the hand-held microphone (19) to the left or right side of the 730 unit.

Voice Activation

Set the voice activation switch (13) in the cassette compartment to ON or OFF.

Sensitivity Switch

Set the microphone sensitivity switch (27) for dictation applications.

Voice Level

Hold microphone 5-10 cm from mouth for normal dictation; use CONF for conferences.

Recording

Press the record key (23) on the microphone; LED (24) blinks for record standby.

Pause / Stop Recording

Slide the four-position switch to stop; the LED will blink again.

Playback Dictation

Slide the four-position switch down to rewind recording to the desired playback point.

Correction

Use wind and rewind functions to locate the position for beginning your correction.

Index Marks

Set three index types to easily locate specific dictation pieces later.

End of Letter Index

Set an end-of-letter index by pressing the I/P key (25) after each dictation segment.

Priority Index

Set a priority index by pressing the I/P key (25) twice to mark urgent dictation.

Special Index

Set a special index by pressing the S key to mark instructions or urgent messages.

Record Protection

Protect recordings from overwriting by breaking the small tab on the cassette front.

Transcription

Connections

Connect headphones and foot control to the rear sockets for transcription use.

Autorewind Switch

Recommended for transcription to use the 730's autorewind scan function.

Search

The SEARCH key (10) offers four functions to navigate specific dictation pieces on a cassette.

Search Forwards

Pressing SEARCH key once automatically winds tape to the next index mark.

Skip

Press SEARCH key 3 times to automatically skip to the 3rd index mark from current position.

Preview

Preview cassette contents by holding SEARCH key while tape moves (approx. 1 sec).

Search Backwards

Move backwards from an index mark by pressing REWIND (7) and SEARCH (10).

Playback

Play back dictation by pressing the right pedal of the foot control.

Speaker On / Off

Set loudspeaker switch (17) to ON for built-in speaker or EXT for headphones.

Automatic Backspace

Plays back last few seconds of recording upon pausing during transcription.

Backspace

Backspace tape by briefly pressing the left pedal of the foot control.

Rewind

Rewind tape by depressing the left pedal of the foot control.

Cue

Cue tape by depressing the middle pedal of the foot control.

Fast Erase

Erase tape content to prepare it for subsequent dictation.

Special Functions

Hands-Free Dictation

Make recordings using the foot control, freeing hands for papers and notes.

Start/Stop Recording

Press the right pedal to start recording; press again to pause.

Rewind/End Recording

Press the left pedal to exit record mode and rewind the tape.

Start/Stop Playback

After exiting record mode, press the right pedal to start playback; press again to stop.
