Perfusion Index
5-4 EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use
If EWS is enabled and SpO
2
is specified as a required measurement for EWS, the
following occurs:
• A yellow asterisk is displayed to the left of the SpO
2
label.
• If you try to save a record and the SpO
2
measurement is missing, a message informs
you of the missing information. You can touch either of the following buttons in the
message box:
- Continue Editing returns you to the main screen, where the word Required
displays in the SpO2 numeric pane.
- Save presents the QuickAlerts advisory window, which states that the vital signs
entry is incomplete. In the advisory window, you can touch Acknowledge to save
the record with incomplete EWS scoring.
A pulse rate derived from the SpO
2
measurement is displayed in the Pulse numeric pane
if Pulse Source is set to Auto or SpO
2
. For details, see Chapter 10, “Monitoring Pulse
Rate.”
Perfusion Index
The perfusion index in the SpO2 numeric pane represents the strength of the signal. The
number of solid segments in the bar indicates the strength of the perfusion at the
monitoring site. If the perfusion is very weak, a low perfusion alarm sounds.
The following table describes the number of solid segments in the bar and the
corresponding perfusion index value. If the perfusion value is low (three or fewer solid
segments in the bar), try adjusting the sensor or using a different type of sensor.
Number of Segments Perfusion Index
None 0.1%
1 0.3%
2 < 0.7%
3 < 1.0%
4 < 2.0%
5 < 3.0%
6 < 4.0%
