EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use 8-7
Temperature Safety Information
- Releasing the Scan key before the measurement completes
- The patient is completely diaphoretic
Measure only skin that is exposed to the environment. Anything covering the area to
be measured – such as hair, hat, or bandages – insulates and prevents the heat from
dissipating, resulting in falsely high readings.
Slowly slide the thermometer straight across the forehead, from the center (midline)
to the hairline (or start at the hairline) and not down the side of the face. Midline on
the forehead, the temporal artery is less than 2mm below the skin surface; at the side
of the face, the temporal artery is much deeper, and measuring there would result in
falsely low readings.
On an infant, only one measurement is required – preferably at the temporal artery
area. If visibly diaphoretic, push aside any clothing or blankets covering the neck area
for approximately 30 seconds, and then take the measurement on the neck behind
the ear.
Your biomedical engineer can verify the accuracy of the temporal thermometer.
Temperature Safety Information
WARNING
The temporal thermometer is rated IPX0, no protection against the ingress of water with harmful
effects.
Use the temporal thermometer only for its intended use as described in this manual.
Do not take a temperature measurement over scar tissue, open sores or abrasions.
The operating environmental temperature range for the temporal thermometer is 60°F to 104°F
(15.5°C to 40°C).
Always store the thermometer in a clean, dry place where it will not become excessively cold (–
4°F / –20°C), hot (122°F / 50°C) or humid (maximum RH 93% non-condensing, at 50 kPa to 106
kPa).
The thermometer is not shockproof. Do not drop it or expose it to electrical shocks.
Do not Autoclave. For cleaning and sterilizing procedures, see Chapter 14, “Care and Cleaning.”
Do not use the thermometer if it is not working properly, if it has been exposed to temperature
extremes, damaged, been subject to electrical shocks, or immersed in water.
There are no parts that you can service yourself. For service, repair, or adjustments, contact your
system administrator. No modification of this equipment is allowed.
Never drop or insert any object into any opening.
Not suitable for use in the presence of flammable anesthetic mixtures.
The temporal thermometer can be used with disposable caps or a full sheath. The disposable
probe covers are a potential choking hazard.
The temporal thermometer LED display screen is not readable if there is LED failure. A scratched,
foggy, or damaged LED display screen may not be readable.
