SECTION 4
NORMAL PROCEDURES
Adjust pedal position so that it is possible for the pilot to easily control the
rudder with full-deflections.
Fasten seat-belts properly: excessive elevator push-over during spin
recovery may result in negative G accelerations.
Entry altitude and altitude drop
Flight testing showed that typical altitude drops from spin entry to full
recovery in level ight are in the following ranges:
1-turn spin*: 440-840 ft
2-turns spin*: 800-1250 ft
3-turns spin*: 1000-1660 ft
* depending on aircraft loading and control inputs
Minimum recommended altitude to enter an intentional 3-turns spin is 5500
ft AGL.
SPIN ENTRY PROCEDURE
1 Flaps 0, trim for 67 KIAS, fix power setting.
2 Pull the control stick back until stall occurs.
3
Hold the stick in full aft position (stop) and apply full rudder in the
desired spin direction.
4 Reduce throttle to IDLE, hold controls steady while spinning.
5
As desired, apply ailerons input (up to full deflection) in the same or
in opposite direction of the rudder input.
SPIN RECOVERY PROCEDURE
1 Throttle IDLE.
2 Apply full rudder deflection in direction opposite the spin.
3 Lower the nose towards the ground to build speed (stick forward).
4 Neutralize aileron input (stick to center-forward position).
5 As rotation stops, neutralize rudder.
6 Establish horizontal flight without exceeding g-load or airspeed.
After-landing aircraft inspection
Check oil-quantity after each flight involving spinning.
