Overview

The Orangutwang game is a children's game designed for 2 or more players, ages 4 and up. The primary function of the game is to test players' dexterity and balance skills by having them carefully hang various game pieces onto a suspended orangutan figure without causing it to "twaaang" or jump off its string.

Components:

The game includes several key components:

  • 2-Piece Base: This forms the foundation of the game, providing stability for the palm trees.
  • 2 Palm Trees with Toucan Lever and Vine String: These trees are assembled onto the base and feature a vine string from which the orangutan hangs. One tree incorporates a "Toucan Lever" mechanism.
  • Orangutan: This is the central figure of the game, designed to be suspended from the vine string. Its balance is critical to gameplay.
  • 14 Hanging Game Pieces: These are the items players must hang on the orangutan. They consist of:
    • 2 Pineapples
    • 2 Bats
    • 6 Banana Bunches
    • 2 Geckos
    • 2 Coconuts
  • Die: Used to determine which game piece a player must hang during their turn.

Function Description:

The game's objective is to be the last player to successfully hang an item on the Orangutan without causing it to "twaaang" and go flying. Players take turns rolling a die to determine which game piece they must hang. The challenge lies in carefully placing the piece on the orangutan (on its leg, arm, or anywhere else, but not on the vine) to maintain its balance. If a player causes the orangutan to lose its balance and "twaaang," they are out of the game, and the player who successfully hung the item just before that event is declared the winner.

Usage Features:

  • Setup:
    1. Assemble the two-piece game base and attach the palm trees as shown in the instructions.
    2. Pull the Toucan Lever on one of the palm trees upwards until it clicks into place. This likely sets the tension or mechanism for the orangutan's "twaaang" action.
    3. Remove the Orangutan figure from its packaging (specifically, from the box window if it's secured there) and hang it from the string that connects the two palm trees.
    4. Place all 14 hanging game pieces into the base of the game, making them readily accessible for players.
    5. Set the die out on the playing area.
  • Gameplay:
    1. Starting Player: The game begins with a fun challenge: players quickly say "banana" five times. The first player to do so without messing up goes first. If there's a tie, or if players prefer not to do the banana challenge, the youngest player starts.
    2. Rolling the Die: On a player's turn, they roll the die. The die faces correspond to the different game pieces (pineapple, bat, banana bunch, gecko, coconut).
    3. Special Die Roll: If a player rolls a "star" symbol on the die, they lose their turn but are safe from causing the orangutan to "twaaang" during that round.
    4. Re-rolling: If a player rolls an item that has already been completely hung (meaning no more of that specific piece are left in the base), they must roll the die again until they get an available piece or a "star."
    5. Hanging a Piece: Once a piece is determined, the player must carefully take that piece and hang it anywhere on the Orangutan. The instructions explicitly state "not on the vine," emphasizing that the challenge is to balance the orangutan itself. Players can choose to hang it from its leg, arm, or any other part of its body. The critical aspect is to maintain the orangutan's balance and prevent it from jumping or flying off the string.
    6. Continuing Play: After a player successfully hangs a piece, play proceeds to the next player to their left, who then rolls the die. This continues until the Orangutan can no longer take any more weight and "twaaangs."
  • Winning: The player who successfully hangs an item on the Orangutan immediately before the player who causes it to "twaaang" and go flying is declared the winner. The game encourages a celebratory "Orangutan dance" for the winner.

Maintenance Features:

  • Disassembly: When the game needs to be put away, the instructions note that the trees should be twisted to remove them from the base. This suggests a simple, twist-and-lock or twist-and-release mechanism for easy storage and setup.
  • Cleaning: While not explicitly stated, the plastic components would likely be easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth if they become dirty.
  • Safety Warning: The product includes a prominent "WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD-Small parts. Not for children under 3 years." This is a crucial safety feature, indicating that the game pieces are small enough to pose a choking risk for very young children and should be kept out of their reach.

Important Technical Specifications (Implied):

  • Material: The components appear to be made primarily of plastic, given the description of the base, trees, orangutan, and game pieces.
  • Age Range: 4 years and up.
  • Player Count: 2 or more players.
  • Dimensions: Not specified, but the game is designed to be set up on a playing area, implying a tabletop size.
  • Mechanism: The "Toucan Lever" and the "twaaang" action suggest a spring-loaded or tension-release mechanism within the palm tree or base that triggers the orangutan's movement when its balance is sufficiently disturbed.

The Orangutwang game offers a fun and engaging experience for young children, focusing on fine motor skills, strategic placement, and an element of suspense. Its simple rules and clear objective make it accessible for its target age group.
