Steering Cable Removal / Installation -- All Models
W ARNING: Failure to properly install the steering cable can result in loss of vehicle control possibly causing se-
vere injury or death.
1. Remove seat, front storage compartment (Genesis models), and front bulkhead panel (Genesis models).
2. Visually inspect the engine compartment. Note the current routing of the steering cable.
3. On models with electric reverse, press and hold the bilge button. Lower the reverse gate. For models with
manual reverse, manually lower the reverse gate.
4. With the reverse gate lowered, loosen and remove the
steering linkage from the steering nozzle. Discard the
nylock nut.
5. Depending on the model, one or two exhaust hoses
may require removal to access the steering cable
through--hull fitting nut.
6. Prior to removing the thru--hull nut, loosen, but do not
remove, the lockplate nut. With the lockplate loose,
use an adjustable--locking wrench to remove the
thru--hull nut.
W ARNING: Due to the location of the upper--steering link-
age and bracket, the shroud assembly, handlebar assem-
bly, and top--deck plug must be removed in order to proper-
ly remove and install the steering cable.
7. To remove shroud assembly, loosen the four mounting
bolts, compartment door mounting plate bolts, and the
handlebar assembly. Detach the MFI harness and the
pitot hose at the back of the MFI. Remove the access
plug from the top--deck.
8. With the access hole open, loosen and remove the jam
nuts that secure the steering cable to the top--deck.
9. T urn the steering column to the left. Loosen and
remove the column--to--steering cable mounting bolt.
10. Working from the front of the watercraft to the back,
push the steering cable through the rear thru--hull
opening. Continue working the cable out of the
watercraft so that the jam nuts and upper cable linkage
is accessible in the engine compartment.
