RPM Limiter System Troubleshooting -- Carb. Models (Except Freedom) -- Overheat
RPM Limiter System Troubleshooting flowchart is shown below.
Open electrical box. Disconnect temperature sensor
Tan wire from terminal board. Does system still limit
with Tan sensor wire disconnected?
No ®
Yes ¯
1. Test temperature sensor .
2. Inspect Tan wire on sensor for shorts to ground.
a. Replace / repair sensor and/or wiring.
3. Inspect cooling system for restrictions, leaks, or
another problem which would cause overheating.
Inspect all Tan wires in terminal board area for con-
tact with ground (should not be grounded). Is there
a short?
Yes ®
No ¯
Repair wires/terminal board.
Replace CDI module and re-test.
RPM Limiter System Troubleshooting -- Carb. Models (Except Freedom) -- Reverse
RPM Limit
Open electrical box. Disconnect reverse switch Gray
/ Red wire from terminal board. Does system still
limit with Gray / Red sensor wire disconnected?
No ®
Yes ¯
1. Test reverse switch. Continuity should be ob-
served as soon as lever is moved from forward posi-
tion.
2. Inspect Gray / Red wire on switch for shorts to
ground.
a. Replace / repair switch and/or wiring.
Inspect all Gray / Red wires in terminal board area
for contact with ground (should not be grounded). Is
there a short?
Yes ®
No ¯
Repair wires/terminal board, or replace reverse limit
switch.
Replace CDI module and re-test.

Warning System Troubleshooting -- Freedom
Push bilge button to power fuel gauge and warning system when engine is not running.
S Warning system receives power from Orange terminal. (Switched DCV supplied by LR 505 mod-
ule.)
To check warning lamp on fuel gauge:
S Connect Pur/W and Black together at harness. Light will be lit steady with no blinking.
To check low oil lamp:
S Connect Blu and Blk leads at oil sender harness. Light should illuminate and stay on.
To check overheat lamp and limiting function:
S Connect Tan lead to ground at temperature sensor . Light should blink 1/2 second on, 1/2 second
off. Engine should limit at 3500 RPM.
NOTE: Fuel gauge warning light will not blink for low fuel. The light will only blink to warn of an engine overheat
condition.
