General Troubleshooting -- Continued
Electrical
NOTE: A yellow color may develop on spark plugs over time due to salt water mist ingestion. This is a conductive
coating which will eventually cause fouling.
Symptoms: No spark or weak spark on one cylinder.
S Non-resistor spark plugs in use
S Poor connection (spark plug cap to high tension lead)
S Poor connection (high tension lead to ignition coil)
S Fouled spark plug
S Faulty spark plug cap
S Poor grounds or connections in electrical box
S Faulty ignition coil
S Poor connections to Hall Effect sensors (trigger)
S Faulty Hall Effect sensor (trigger)
Symptoms: No spark or weak/intermittent spark on all cylinders.
S Non-resistor spark plugs in use
S Fouled spark plug
S Engine stop switch faulty (shorted)
S Low battery voltage / crank speed too low with spark plugs installed
S Wiring incorrect or disconnected
S Terminal board or connectors corroded
S Poor grounds or connections in electrical box or at engine mount plate
S Poor connections at primary winding of secondary coil (blk/blk-white on Polaris-Fuji engines)
S Faulty ignition coil
S Faulty exciter coil, trigger, or pulser coil (test stator)
S Excessive crankshaft runout on Magneto end (digital CDI only) (> .004² or .10 mm)
Vibration / Pump
S Damaged impeller or stator vanes in pump
S Driveshaft bent or engine alignment incorrect
S Pump cavitation/worn pump bearings
S Engine mounting plate bolts loose
S Loose, worn, or broken rubber engine mounts
S Rich running - carb synchronization, pop--off valve stuck open, excessive piston to cylinder clear-
ance, ring end gap, needle and seat dirty or stuck open
S Exhaust pipe/bracket loose
S Muffler loose or rubbing on hull
S Fasteners loose or broken
S Crankshaft out of index or runout excessive
S Misfire on one or more cylinders
Porpoising / Hull
S Ride plate wrong type or misaligned
S W ater in hull
