Overview

This document describes the PowerStroke 3100 PSI Pressure Washer (PS80312E), a robust cleaning tool designed for various outdoor applications.

Function Description

The PowerStroke 3100 PSI Pressure Washer is a gasoline-powered device used for cleaning most small to large horizontal or vertical exterior surfaces, as well as smaller exterior objects and structures, and outdoor equipment and tools. It operates by generating a high-pressure stream of water, which can be adjusted using different nozzles to suit various cleaning tasks. The unit is equipped with an OHC engine, providing the necessary power for effective cleaning. It also features an automatic soap injection system for applying detergent and a battery maintainer charger to keep the battery ready for electric start.

Usage Features

Starting and Stopping: The pressure washer can be started using either the electric start button or by pulling the starter grip and rope. Before starting, users must ensure the fuel valve is open, the engine switch/choke is in the appropriate position (CHOKE for cold start, RUN for warm start), and all hoses are connected with the water supply turned on. The trigger should be pulled to relieve air pressure until a steady stream of water appears. To stop the engine, the engine switch/choke should be set to the OFF position and the fuel valve to the closed position. After stopping, the trigger must be pulled to release any stored water pressure in the high-pressure hose.

Trigger Handle and Lock Out: The trigger handle provides a gripping surface for added control and reduced fatigue. Pulling the trigger releases the high-pressure water stream. A lock-out feature is included to prevent unauthorized use; it can be engaged by pushing it up until it clicks into the slot and disengaged by pushing it down.

Nozzle Selection Guide: The unit comes with multiple quick-connect nozzles, each designed for a different spray pattern and cleaning intensity:

  • 0° Red Nozzle (Abrasive, High Pressure): For tough stains and concentrated cleaning on concrete, brick, and masonry.
  • 25° Green Nozzle (High Pressure): A wider spray for general cleaning on siding, gutters, houses, fencing, decks, patios, lawn equipment, boats, and RVs.
  • 40° White Nozzle (High Pressure): A wide, gentle spray for delicate surfaces and rinsing on siding, gutters, houses, fencing, decks, patios, lawn equipment, boats, and RVs.
  • Blue Soap Nozzle (Low Pressure, Gentle): Activates the automatic soap injector for applying detergent on all surfaces.

Users should select the appropriate nozzle for the job and always turn off the pressure washer, shut off the water supply, and release water pressure before changing nozzles.

Automatic Soap Injection System: Detergent can be poured directly into the soap tank. When the blue soap nozzle is used, the soap injector is activated, diluting the detergent at a 20:1 ratio. It is crucial to use only detergents specifically designed for pressure washers to avoid damage to the pump or property. After applying detergent, the soap tank should be filled with clean water and flushed through the spray wand until empty to prevent residue buildup.

Hose Management: The high-pressure hose should be fully uncoiled and straightened before and during use to prevent kinks, which can lead to leaks and injection injuries. The hose can be stored on the back of the machine using the hook-and-loop strap. The garden hose must be connected to a water main (never hot water or water from pools/lakes) and flushed for 30 seconds to clear debris before connecting to the pressure washer. A minimum of 10 feet of unrestricted hose is recommended between the pressure washer intake and the water faucet.

Battery Maintainer Charger: The included battery maintainer charger is used to keep the battery fully charged when storing the pressure washer, ensuring the electric start feature is always ready. The charger connects to a standard 120V household receptacle and the pressure washer's maintainer input. A red light indicates charging, which turns green when fully charged. The pressure washer engine does not charge or maintain the battery while running.

Maintenance Features

General Maintenance: Regular inspection of the pressure washer is essential. Before each use, check for damaged, missing, or loose parts (screws, nuts, bolts, caps), and ensure all fasteners are securely tightened. The air filter should be clean, and both engine lubricant and fuel tank levels should be checked and refilled as needed. Avoid using solvents on plastic parts, as they can cause damage.

Engine Lubricant: The engine is shipped with a small amount of lubricant for testing purposes. Before the first use, the entire contents of the provided lubricant container (SAE 30 or SAE 10W30) must be added to the oil reservoir. Subsequent refills should bring the fluid level to the upper portion of the hatched area on the dipstick, without overfilling. The oil cap/dipstick should be securely tightened after checking or adding lubricant.

Fuel System: Only unleaded gasoline containing up to 10% ethanol (E10) should be used. E15 or E85 fuels are prohibited as they can damage the unit and void the warranty. Fuel should be added outdoors, away from ignition sources, and with a cool engine. The fuel cap should be loosened slowly to release pressure and tightened securely after refueling. Any spilled fuel must be wiped up immediately.

Pump Maintenance: The pressure washer pump is factory-filled with lubricant and does not require user-servicing or additional lubricant. Any attempt to service or alter the pump may damage it and void the warranty. Routine visual inspection for lubricant leaks around pump oil seals is recommended.

Nozzle Maintenance: If excessive pump pressure or a pulsing sensation is felt, it may indicate a clogged or dirty nozzle. To clean, turn off the pressure washer, shut off the water supply, release water pressure, and remove the nozzle. Foreign materials can be removed by blowing them out or using a straightened paper clip/fine needle. Back-flushing the nozzle with a garden hose (running water from outside to inside) can also clear debris.

Battery Maintainer Fuse: If the battery maintainer charger light does not illuminate, the fuse may need replacement. The fuse holder can be opened to remove the old fuse and insert a new 7.5 amp fuse. Using a higher-rated fuse is not recommended as it can damage the product.

Battery Replacement: To replace the battery, first drain lubricant and fuel from the pressure washer. Disconnect the black wire from the negative (-) terminal and the red wire from the positive (+) terminal. The pressure washer should be carefully laid down on its handle to access the battery. A 10 mm wrench is needed to remove the retaining bolt securing the battery holder. The old battery should be disposed of according to local and state regulations. When installing the new battery, ensure the battery holder's tab is inserted into the opening on the bracket and locked into position. Reconnect the red wire to the positive terminal and the black wire to the negative terminal, taking care not to short across the terminals.

Storage: Before storing, allow the pressure washer to cool for at least 30 minutes. It is crucial to store the unit in a frost-free, dry, and covered area. All water should be emptied from hoses, the pump, and the soap tank. The fuel tank should be completely drained by running the pressure washer until the gas runs out, as stored gas can go stale in 30 days. Regular use of fuel stabilizer and pump protector is recommended to enhance performance and extend pump life. When storing for extended periods, the battery maintainer charger should be connected to keep the battery charged.

Periodic Maintenance Schedule: The manual provides a detailed maintenance schedule, including tasks to be performed each use, weekly, and after 25, 50, and 200 hours of operation. These tasks include checking for water leaks, plumbing, cleaning the engine, checking nuts and bolts, checking and refilling engine lubricant, changing engine lubricant (initial change after 20 hours, then every 100 hours), checking water inlet filter placement, adding fuel stabilizer and pump protector, checking and cleaning the spark plug, cleaning and replacing the air filter, and cleaning and adjusting spark plug electrodes. If a separate engine manual is provided, its maintenance schedule should be followed for engine-related items.
