Overview

The device is a heavy-duty, forward-action staple and nail gun, specifically the PowerShot Model 5700M. It is designed for various fastening tasks using staples and brad nails.

Function Description:

The PowerShot staple and nail gun is a versatile tool used for fastening materials together. Its primary function is to drive staples and brad nails into a workpiece. The "forward action" design is a key feature, intended to maximize ease of use and control by leveraging arm force rather than just hand squeezing, especially in vertical applications where a front finger hole provides added support. The tool is activated by placing it firmly on the workpiece and pushing the handle steadily down towards the staple exit.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: 5700M
  • Fastener Compatibility:
    • Staples: Heavy Duty .050” narrow crown width staples. It is designed to use PowerShot Brand Heavy Duty .050” staples and is also compatible with other standard .050” narrow crown width heavy duty staples, including Arrow T-50 brand staples.
      • Available staple lengths: 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2", 9/16".
    • Nails: 9/16” and 5/8” brad nails.
  • Leg Penetration Guideline: When stapling or nailing into wood, allow for leg penetration of approximately 3/16"–1/4".
  • Wire Attachment: The device includes a wire attachment feature for securing wires.
  • Internal Components: The tool contains no customer-serviceable components, and disassembly by unscrewing the housing is not recommended due to specific tool requirements for reassembly.

Usage Features:

  • Forward Action Design: This unique design places the "high" part of the handle in the front, promoting the use of arm force for activation, which enhances leverage and control.
  • Staples Remaining Window (A): Located on the left side of the gun, this window allows the user to see when the staple strip is nearing its end, indicating when a reload is needed.
  • Staple Exit Indicator (B): A notch at the front of the gun shows the exact point where staples will be fired, aiding in precise placement directly behind the noseplate.
  • Soft Grip Handle (C): Designed for enhanced comfort during use.
  • Finger Hole (D): Provides added support, particularly useful in vertical applications.
  • Track Release (E): Facilitates maintenance and loading.
  • Loading Staples:
    1. Remove the pusher rod (A).
    2. Insert a strip of staples into the magazine (B).
    3. Replace the pusher rod.
  • Loading Nails:
    1. Remove the pusher rod (A).
    2. Insert a strip of nails into the left channel of the magazine (side with the graphics).
    3. Replace the pusher rod.
  • Important Loading Note: The gun must NOT be loaded with staples and nails simultaneously.
  • Wire Attachment Usage:
    • Installing (Fig. 4A): Spread the sides of the wire attachment and push it into place.
    • Application (Fig. 4B): Place the PowerShot over the wire, aligning the center attachment. Avoid over-stapling.
    • Removal (Fig. 4C): Spread the sides of the wire attachment and pull it off.
  • Safety Instructions:
    • Always use eye protection to minimize the risk of eye injury.
    • Be aware of the staple exit point and ensure proper hand positioning.
    • Always point the gun away from yourself and others, especially when clearing jams, as jammed staples can be ejected unexpectedly.
    • Place the staple exit point firmly against the work surface before firing to prevent serious injury from staples fired "into the air."
    • Use only the proper staple size (.050" wire gauge heavy-duty staples); do not use light-duty (.030"), desk, or wire staples.
    • Maintain a clean and well-lit work area.
    • Keep children and visitors away from the work area and the tool.
    • Store idle tools in a dry, high, or locked-up place out of reach of children.
    • Avoid overreaching and maintain proper footing and balance.
    • Stay alert and use common sense; do not operate the tool when tired.
    • Be cautious not to staple into electrical wires, especially those hidden from view.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning Magazine (in case of staple jam):
    1. Ensure the bottom of the gun is pointing away from yourself and others.
    2. Remove the pusher rod (A).
    3. Remove the screw and nut (B) from hole (C).
    4. Remove the entire magazine from the housing.
    • Note: Track movement may be stiffer than usual if there is a staple jam.
  • Storage: After use, unload any remaining staples. Store the tool in a dry place, out of the reach of children.
  • Repairs: Repairs and maintenance should only be performed by qualified PowerShot staff to ensure product safety and reliability. The tool does not contain customer-serviceable components.
