The PowerSmart 17" 40V Cordless Lawn Mower is designed for residential use to cut grass. It operates on a 40V lithium-ion battery, offering cordless convenience. The mower is capable of mulching, side discharge, and collecting grass clippings in a grass catcher bag. It features a "Soft-start" function for smooth operation and multiple cutting height adjustments to suit various lawn conditions. Safety is a primary concern, with warnings and instructions provided to prevent personal injury and property damage.

  • Soft-Start: The mower is equipped with a "Soft-start" feature, taking approximately 3 seconds to reach full speed. If it doesn't start, remove the battery and check for obstructions under the deck.
  • Cutting Height Adjustment: The mower offers 5 cutting height positions. To adjust, raise or lower the front and rear height adjustment levers.
  • Mowing on Slopes: Exercise extreme caution on slopes. Mow across the face of a slope, never up and down. Avoid wet or damp grass and areas with holes, ruts, rocks, or hidden objects. Do not mow on slopes greater than 15 degrees.
  • Grass Catcher Bag: The mower includes a grass catcher bag for collecting clippings. It is installed by lifting the chute cover and placing the bag hooks into the handle bracket slots. The bag is removed by lifting it by its handle and emptying clippings.
  • Battery Installation/Removal: The battery pack is installed by lifting the battery door, aligning guided ribs with grooves in the battery port, ensuring the latch snaps in place, and inserting the safety key. To remove, release the power lever, remove the safety key, press the battery latch button, and remove the battery pack.
  • Safety Devices: The mower should never be operated without proper safety devices in place and working, including the trail shield, discharge cover, grass catcher, and control switch.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The underside of the mower deck should be cleaned after each use to prevent rust and corrosion from grass clippings, leaves, dirt, and debris. The motor cover should also be kept free of build-up. Do not use water to clean the mower; use a dry cloth and appropriate tools for scraping.
  • Blade Inspection and Sharpening: The blade should be inspected and replaced or sharpened as required, at least once a year for optimal performance, especially when cutting tall grass.
  • Lubrication: The mower should be lubricated as part of its maintenance routine.
  • Storage: Store the mower in a dry, clean, cool place, out of reach of children, and away from corrosive materials like fertilizer or rock salt. Do not cover it with a solid plastic sheet, as this can trap moisture.
  • Handle Folding: The handle can be folded for compact storage by loosening nuts on the upper handle and quick-release fasteners on the lower handle.
  • Battery Care: For off-season storage, remove the battery pack once fully charged. Store it below 80°F, away from moisture, and in a 30%-50% charged condition. Charge the pack every two months during storage to prolong its life.
  • Charger Safety: Charge the battery in a dry area between 45°F and 104°F. Use only the manufacturer-provided charger. Do not abuse the charge cord or use a damaged charger. Keep the charger and mower away from water, heat sources, flames, and chemicals.
  • Service: Servicing should be performed by a qualified service technician using identical replacement parts. Contact customer service at 1-800-791-9458 for assistance.
  • Environmental Battery Disposal: Lithium-ion batteries contain toxic and corrosive materials and must be disposed of in a specified manner to prevent environmental contamination. Contact local waste disposal agencies for instructions and take batteries to a certified recycling/disposal center. Do not incinerate, place in regular trash, or attempt to repair damaged batteries. Cover terminals with heavy-duty adhesive tape before disposal.

The manual emphasizes the importance of reading and understanding all instructions and warnings before operating the mower to ensure safety and proper function. It also provides contact information for customer service and technical assistance.
