4. Besuretheventpipeisopenbeforeeachuse.Cleantheventpipewithasmallbrushorpipecleaner
(Fig.G).
5. WhenyourPressureCannerisnotinuse,invertthecoverontheCannerbodyandstoreinadryplace.
StoringtheCannerwiththecoverlockedonmaycauseunpleasantodorsandmaydeformthesealing
ring.
General Maintenance
1. UseonlygenuinePresto


2. CAUTION: In time, the sealing ring may shrink and the automatic air vent may become hard and deformed or soft and sticky.
Exposuretohighheat,suchasawarmburneroroventop,willcausethesepartstodeteriorate.Whenthishappens,replacethesealing
ringandautomaticairvent.Beforeinsertinganewsealingring,cleanthesealingringgroovewithabrush.Toensuresafeoperation
ofyourPressureCanner,itisrecommendedtheautomaticairventbereplacedwheneverthesealingringisreplaced.Failuretofol-
low these instructions could result in bodily injury or property damage.
3. IftheCannerbodyorcoverhandlesbecomeloose,tightenwithascrewdriver.
4. IfleakageofmoistureorsteamdevelopswhileusingyourCanner,checkthefollowingpossiblecauses:
♦ Theformationofasmallamountofmoistureunderthepressureregulatorisnormalwhencanningrstbegins.Thiscondensation
isaresultofthetemperatureofthepressureregulatorbeinglowerthantherestoftheCanner.Ifexcesscondensationcontinues,
the vent pipe may be loose and should be tightened with an adjustable wrench.
♦ Leakagebetweenthecoverandbodyisusuallycausedbyshrinkageofthesealingringafterprolongeduse.Replacethesealing
ring and automatic air vent.
♦ A small amount of steam or moisture may be visible around the automatic air vent as canning begins. This will stop when the
automatic air vent seals. If leakage continues, clean or replace the automatic air vent.
 DonotoperateyourPressureCannerwithcontinualleakage.Iftheabovestepsdonotcorrecttheproblem,returntheentireunitto
thePrestoFactoryServiceDepartment.
5. Thedialgaugeisadelicateinstrumentwhichmustbehandledwithcare.Priortoeachcanningseasonorbeforethenextuse,ifthe
cover has been submerged in water, dropped, the gauge glass has broken or fallen out, any parts are rusty, the pointer is not in the
“0” block, or if for any reason you believe the gauge may not be accurate, have the gauge checked for accuracy by your local family
livingagentorextensionhomeeconomist.Ifyouareunabletohaveyourdialgaugecheckedlocally,carefullyremovethegaugeand
sendittothePrestoConsumerServiceDepartment(seepage6).Anaccuratedialgaugeisnecessarytohelppreventfoodspoilage
and possible food poisoning.
6. IfthePressureCannerbecomesdifculttoopenorcloseandthesealingringhasexpanded,replacethesealingringandautomatic
air vent
7. Anymaintenancerequiredfor this product, other than normal household care andcleaning,shouldbeperformedbythe Presto
FactoryServiceDepartment.
Installing the Pressure Dial Gauge
Toinstallthepressuredialgauge,threadthestemofthegaugeintotheCannercover,turningthegaugeclockwiseuntilthedialgaugebase
isushagainstthecover.Stopturningwhenthedialgaugefacesthedirectionyouwant.Note:Models01/CAA12Hand01/CAA20H
are different and install with a nut.
