What to do if my Prime Heat Gas Heater smells like gas when off?
    • B
      brooke98Aug 1, 2025
If your Prime Heat Gas Heater has a gas odor even when the control knob is in the OFF position, this typically indicates a gas leak. Locate and correct all leaks. If the odor persists, the control valve may be defective and require replacement.

Why does my Prime Heat Gas Heater shut off during use?

      Audrey SpencerAug 6, 2025
If your Prime Heat Gas Heater shuts off during use, it could be due to several reasons. First, ensure enough fresh air is available by opening a window or door for ventilation. It may be also caused by restrictions in incoming air flow, so check for a bottom riser on the glass door, a sunken fireplace, or excessive lava rock/cinders densely packed against the grate. Another potential cause is a partially clogged ODS/pilot, which would require cleaning. Also, a defective thermopile may be the reason. Check the pilot flame and wire connections, and ensure an output of 325 millivolts across the TH/TP and TP Terminals with the ON/OFF switches off. Finally, low line pressure can also cause this issue, in which case you should contact your local gas company.

Why won't my Prime Heat Gas Heater ignite even with a spark?
    • A
      ambermyersAug 12, 2025
If the ignitor button on your Prime Heat Gas Heater is pressed and there is spark at the ODS pilot, but no ignition occurs, there are several possible causes. First, ensure that the gas supply is turned on and the manual shutoff valve is open. Next, check that the control knob is in the PILOT position and pressed in while in that position. If there is air in the gas lines from a recent installation, continue holding down the control knob and repeat the igniting operation until the air is removed. Additionally, the ODS/pilot may be clogged, requiring replacement or servicing. Finally, the gas regulator setting might not be correct, and the gas regulator may need to be replaced.

How to fix a Prime Heat Gas Heater when the ignitor button produces no spark?
    • L
      Lisa PachecoAug 19, 2025
If pressing the ignitor button on your Prime Heat Gas Heater produces no spark at the ODS/pilot, several issues could be responsible. The ignitor electrode may be positioned incorrectly or broken, in either case, replace the ignitor. The ignitor electrode may not be connected to the ignitor cable, so reconnect the ignitor cable. The ignitor cable might be pinched or wet; free the ignitor cable if it is pinched by any metal or tubing. The ignitor cable may be broken, so replace the ignitor cable. Finally, the piezo ignitor itself might be bad, so replace the piezo ignitor.

Why does my Prime Heat Gas Heater smell?
    • C
      Carolyn HoltAug 25, 2025
If your Prime Heat Gas Heater produces unwanted odors, it may be due to the appliance burning vapors from paint, hair spray, glues, or similar products. Ventilate the room and stop using these odor-causing products while the heater is running. Another potential cause is a gas leak; locate and correct all leaks. It might also be due to the initial burn-off of the unit. In this case, ventilate the room and turn the unit on high until the odor is gone, which should take about 2 to 3 hours of continuous use.
