Improper installation of batteries will damage the light and void
thewarranty.
Lithiumbatteriesholdachargebetterinextremecoldweatherandare
lighterinweightthanAlkalineorrechargeablebatteries.Rechargeable
Nicad or NiMHbatteries may resultinreducedbrightness in some
modesduetolowervoltage.
Thebatterypackhasawaterproofseal. Itisimportanttokeepthis
sealfreefromdirtandharshchemicalsinordertopreservewaterproof
integrity.Inspectthesealeverytimebatteries arecharged.Ifdirtis
present,wipegently with adampcottonswab and mildsoapuntil
dirtisremoved.
NOTE:Somebatterytypescanemithydrogengas,whichcancreate
anexplosionpotentialinsealeddevicesifitisnotventedorremoved.
TheApexbatterypackisequippedwithaplatinumcatalystthatwill
remove this gas. When replacing the batteries, visually inspect for
brokenormissingcatalyst. If thecatalystappearsto be damaged,
(youmaynoticegrayparticlesinthebatterycompartment),donotuse
headlamp.Seethewarrantyandreturnpolicyformoreinformation.

MaxbrightLED.TheLeftbuttoncontrolsthespotbeam.
The rightbutton is marked with 4 small bumps torepresent the 4
UltrabrightLEDs.Therightbuttoncontrolstheoodbeamandstrobe.

Thepurposeofthebatterypowermeteristogiveyouageneralidea
of the remaining runtime. Switching modes can create an abrupt
changeinbatteryvoltagewhichmaycausetheindicatortochange
color.Oncethecolorturnsyellow,theruntimeremainingdependson
typicaldischargecurveforthetypeofbatteriesyouareusing.After
thelighthas been turned o, the batteryvoltagemighttemporarily
increase,causingthebatterypowermetertotemporarilydisplayan
articiallyhighersetting.
Whenthelightiso,thebatterypowermeterwillcontinuetoblinkfor
24hourstoindicatethecurrentstatusofthebatteries.After24hours
withnoactivity,thebatterypowermeterwillturnotoconservebattery
power.Whenthelightisturnedonagain,itwillresumefunctioning.
Low Battery Signaling During Use
Inadditiontodisplayingredonthebatterypowermeter,whenthere
areapproximately20minutesofruntimeremaining,theApexwillblink
threetimesinrapidsuccession.
Youcanthendecidetostayatyourcurrentlightlevelorswitchtoa
lowerlightlevel,whichmaycausebatteryvoltagetoriseenoughthat
thebatterypowermetertransitionsbacktoyellow.Whenthebattery
powermeterreturnstored,thelightwillblinkagaintoalertyou.
Circuitry
TheApexusesasophisticatedcircuittocontrolthelight.Undernormal
circumstances,themetalheatsinkwillsucientlycooltheelectronics
andprotecttheLEDsfromdamage.Shouldtheinternaltemperature
ofthelightgettoohot,abackuptemperatureprotectioncircuitwill
activateandgraduallydecreasethelightoutputuntilthetemperature
iswithinthespeciedlimits.
TheApexwillautomaticallyturnoafter12hoursofinactivity.Any
buttonpressduringthe12hourperiodwillresettheauto-otimer.
Neverattempttodisassemblethelamphousing.Itissealedtoprotect
thecomponentsfromwaterandtherearenouser-serviceableparts
inside.Dissassemblywillvoidyourwarranty!
To keep the heatsink at peak performance, keep the heatsink and
plasticcoverfreeofobstructions(mudanddirt).Donotremovethe
heatsinkcover—itistheretoprotectyoufromthehightemperature
oftheheatsinkduringoperation.Iftheheatsinkcoverisdamagedor
brokenundernormaluse,donotusetheheadlamp.Seethewarranty
andreturnpolicyformoreinformation.
Power Consumption
TheApexusesacurrent-controlledcircuitthatmaintainsconstant
lightoutputaslongasthebatterieshavesucientvoltage.Constant
runtimeisdependantonbatterytype,LEDsandlightlevelselected.
Troubleshooting
If the Apex fails to light:
•Checkthebatteriesforproperinstallation.
•Inspectthecablefordamage.
If the Apex does not seem to change brightness levels:
•Thebatteryvoltagemaybetoolowtoswitchtoabrightersetting.
This condition is normal for a regulated LED/current-controlled
circuit.YouaremostlikelytoexperiencethisissueintheMaxbright
LEDmode.Installnewbatteriesandrecheckthemodes.
•Inextremeheatconditionstheinternationaltemperatureofthelight
maybetoohotandtheLEDtemperatureprotectioncircuitmayhave
activated.Allowthelighttocoolandtryagain.
