Overview

The Profile Design HSF 800 Hydration System is a specialized hydration solution designed for cyclists, particularly those using aerobar extensions. This system is engineered to provide convenient and efficient hydration during rides, integrating seamlessly with a bicycle's setup.

Function Description:

The primary function of the HSF 800 Hydration System is to provide accessible hydration for cyclists without requiring them to break their aerodynamic position. It consists of a plastic bottle, a screw cap with a fill port, a BTA (Between The Arms) mount, a bottle cage with a retention clip, a Garmin mount, and a drinking straw. The system is designed to be mounted between the aerobar extensions, placing the hydration source directly in front of the rider for easy access.

The bottle itself is made of plastic and features a screw cap with a dedicated fill port, allowing for easy refills during a ride without needing to remove the entire cap. The drinking straw is a key component, enabling the rider to drink hands-free. For the HSF 800+ model, the system includes a magnet in the screw cap and a bite valve, which helps secure the straw and provides a controlled flow of liquid. The standard HSF 800 model uses a hose clip under the Garmin mount to secure the straw.

The BTA mount is specifically designed to fit on aerobar extensions that are between 80mm and 120mm wide (3.25in - 4.75in). This ensures compatibility with a wide range of aerobar setups. The mount utilizes plastic zip ties for secure fastening to the extensions.

An integrated Garmin mount is a notable feature, allowing riders to attach their Garmin Edge series GPS units directly to the hydration system. This keeps essential ride data visible and easily accessible, further enhancing the system's utility.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Access Hydration: The system's placement between the aerobar extensions ensures that the drinking straw is always within reach, allowing the rider to hydrate without altering their aerodynamic position or taking their hands off the handlebars.
  • Convenient Refilling: The dedicated fill port on the screw cap simplifies the refilling process. Riders can open the fill port by pulling a tab, insert a refill bottle nozzle, and squeeze to replenish the liquid without fully removing the cap or the bottle from the cage.
  • Secure Bottle Retention: The plastic bottle cage features a retention clip that securely holds the bottle in place. To remove the bottle, the rider depresses a lever on the clip and pulls the bottle forward. When installing, the bottle slides into the cage until a click is heard from the retention clip, confirming it's seated correctly.
  • Hands-Free Drinking: The drinking straw, especially with the bite valve on the HSF 800+ model, allows for hands-free drinking. The bite valve, when present, should be oriented with the slit vertically in the mouth and pulled open to drink.
  • Integrated GPS Mount: The Garmin mount is compatible with Garmin Edge series units. Riders can place the tabs of their Garmin unit onto the mount and make a quarter turn to engage it, providing a stable and visible location for their GPS device.
  • Adjustable Mounting: The mount can be installed on either the upper or lower side of the aerobar extensions, offering flexibility to set the hydration system at the rider's preferred height.
  • Temperature Range: The HSF/Aero HC 800 is designed to operate effectively within a wide temperature range, from -40 to 75 degrees Celsius.

Maintenance Features:

  • Easy Cleaning: The system is designed for straightforward cleaning. The bottle can be removed from the cage, and the cap can be unscrewed for access. A bottle brush can be used to clean the inside of the bottle and cap, while a hose brush is recommended for cleaning the straw.
  • Dishwasher Safe Components: The bottle, straw, and straw gusset (if applicable) can be placed in a dishwasher for thorough cleaning, simplifying the maintenance routine.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: To ensure the longevity and integrity of the hydration system, it is advised not to use harsh chemical cleaners.
  • Regular Reassembly: After cleaning, the system should be reassembled and fitted back onto the bike. Proper alignment of the bottle with the dual lip seal on the cap and ensuring the cap tabs touch the bottle tabs are crucial for correct sealing.
  • Zip Tie Management: When installing the system on the bike, zip ties are used to secure the mount. Pliers are used to pull the zip ties tight, and scissors or diagonal pliers are used to trim the excess, with care taken not to damage any components.
  • Straw and Hose Clip/Magnet Care: Before removing the bottle, it's important to ensure the hose is not attached to the magnet or clip to prevent damage.
