Why is the snow not being thrown as far as usual by my pronovost P-540 Snow Blower?
    • N
      natasha62Aug 16, 2025
There are several reasons why your pronovost Snow Blower might not be throwing snow as far as it used to. It could be due to the tractor RPM being too low, so raise the P.T.O. speed to a minimum of 540 RPM. Another cause might be a gap that is too wide between the impeller blade tip and drum outlet wall; in this case, adjust the impeller blades closer to the drum outlet (1/8" to 3/16"). Finally, insufficient tractor HP could be the culprit, so you should reduce your travel speed.

Why do U-joints wear prematurely on my pronovost P-540?
    • E
      ebarryAug 22, 2025
Premature wear of U-joints on your pronovost Snow Blower can be caused by several factors. Insufficient lubrication is a primary cause, so follow lubrication recommendations. Excessive working angle can also lead to this issue, and you may need to replace defective U-joints. Poor quality lubricant can also contribute, so use high-quality lubricant. Also, make sure the Snowblower inlet face is perpendicular to the ground and if possible readjust the 3-point hitch to position the Snowblower further away from the tractor.

What causes gripping or premature wear of telescoping members on a pronovost P-540 Snow Blower?
    • S
      Samantha CooperAug 26, 2025
Gripping or premature wear of the telescoping members in your pronovost Snow Blower can occur due to several reasons. Too much sliding under load can cause this, so avoid raising the Snowblower while in operation. If the tube overlap is too short (less than the recommended 6"), readjust the 3-point hitch to position the snowblower closer to the tractor. Insufficient lubrication can also be a factor, so follow lubrication recommendations. Contaminants like sand can also cause wear, so replace defective telescopic members.

What to do if the auger will not turn on my pronovost P-540?
    • M
      Mark OconnorAug 27, 2025
If the auger on your pronovost Snow Blower isn't turning, check for a broken shear bolt on the drive shaft or on the auger drive shaft and replace it. Also, inspect the drive chain for any breaks, and fix or replace the chain if needed.

What should I do if the chute will not turn on my pronovost P-540?
    • V
      Virginia HolmesAug 30, 2025
If the chute on your pronovost Snow Blower is not turning, it could be due to a broken key on the motor, which would need to be replaced. Alternatively, ice accumulation could be preventing movement, so remove any ice. Finally, check for any wrong hydraulic connections and correct them.

What causes a damaged or jammed locking pin or bolt on my pronovost P-540 Snow Blower?
    • J
      John JordanSep 2, 2025
A damaged or jammed locking pin or bolt on your pronovost Snow Blower can occur if the pin or orifice is contaminated by sand or ice; in this case, clean and grease the components. Also, if the telescoping members are too long, exerting pressure on the locking device, readjust the 3-point hitch to position the Snowblower further away from the tractor or shorten the tubes.

What to do if the impeller will not turn on my pronovost Snow Blower?
    • R
      Richard GonzalezSep 4, 2025

What causes premature wear of the guard tube bearing ring on my pronovost P-540?
    • D
      Dennis MurphySep 7, 2025
Premature wear of the guard tube bearing ring on your pronovost Snow Blower can be caused by a lack of lubrication, so follow the lubrication instructions. Additionally, incorrect installation of the guard chain can cause wear, so adjust the chain to prevent interference between the guard and equipment. If part of the guard is in contact with the equipment, this can also lead to wear, so replace worn or damaged bearing rings.

What causes the rotating drum to not turn on my pronovost P-540 Snow Blower?
    • A
      Adam PetersonSep 10, 2025
If the rotating drum on your pronovost Snow Blower is not turning, it could be due to a broken key on the motor, in which case you should replace the key. What to do if the discharge chute on my pronovost P-540 keeps plugging?
    • N
      Nancy CarrollSep 12, 2025
If the discharge chute of your pronovost Snow Blower is plugging frequently, several factors could be responsible. First, ensure that the tractor RPM is at a minimum of 540 RPM. Also, make sure the Snowblower is completely empty before reducing RPM, especially on tractors with foot-controlled RPM. Slippage of the PTO clutch mechanism can also cause this issue, so repair the clutch if necessary. Finally, wet snow conditions can lead to plugging, so reduce your travel speed in these conditions.
