Overview

The PROXXON Micro Compound Table KT 70 is a precision tool designed to facilitate drilling to precise coordinates and performing small milling operations. It is intended for use in conjunction with a bench drill press or a stationary milling machine, enhancing the capabilities of these tools by providing accurate X-Y movement. Users are reminded to always observe safety regulations pertinent to the drill press or mill in use, and to handle the compound table with care due to its sensitive nature.

The device features a work table (1) that serves as the primary surface for securing workpieces. This table is supported by a robust structure (2) that allows for precise movement. The movement along the X-direction is controlled by a dedicated hand wheel (3), while movement along the Y-direction is managed by another hand wheel (4). Each hand wheel is equipped with a corresponding dial (5 for X-direction, 6 for Y-direction) that allows for fine adjustments and accurate positioning. These dials are adjustable, enabling users to set them to zero at any point without needing to traverse the table, which is a convenient feature for incremental movements. Further aiding in precise positioning, the compound table includes an adjustable scale (7) specifically for adjustments in the X-direction.

For securing the compound table to a work surface, the manual outlines a specific procedure. It is designed for use with PROXXON MB 140/S drill stands or PROXXON TBM 115 bench drill presses. For proper fastening, two M4 threaded holes must first be created in the work surface. This involves pre-drilling with a 3.3 mm drill, countersinking the holes, and then cutting the threads with a tap. Once these holes are prepared, the Micro Compound Table KT 70 can be securely attached using the M4 threaded holes and the provided mounting stones (Fig. 2c).

When working with the compound table, especially during milling operations, it is crucial to secure the workpiece effectively. The device comes with clamping claws (Fig. 2b) for this purpose. To use these, two blocks of a stable material should be placed under the claws (2) to act as support. It is important to ensure that these blocks are approximately the same height as the workpiece being secured (Fig. 4). This setup ensures stability and prevents movement of the workpiece during operation, contributing to accuracy and safety.

Maintenance of the compound table includes a feature for adjusting the guide play. Over time, or with varying usage, the guide play might become too loose or too tight, affecting the precision of the table's movement. To address this, the device is equipped with adjusting screws (8). For adjusting the play in the X-direction, the user must first loosen nut 1 (Fig. 5). Then, the play can be adjusted using the set screws 2. After adjustment, nut 1 should be re-tightened to lock the setting. A crucial caution is provided: avoid over-tightening the set screws, as this can damage the sensitive guide. The adjustment of play in the Y-direction follows the same procedure, ensuring consistent performance across both axes.

The compound table also includes a cutting guard (10), which is an important safety feature designed to protect the user from debris and chips generated during drilling or milling operations.

Accessories supplied with the Micro Compound Table KT 70 enhance its versatility. These include components for fixing the machine vise MS 4 (available as accessory no. 28 132, Fig. 2a), which allows for securing smaller workpieces. The clamping claws (Fig. 2b) are provided for general workpiece clamping, and the components for fastening the compound table to a work surface (Fig. 2c) ensure stable installation.

In summary, the PROXXON Micro Compound Table KT 70 is a well-designed, precise tool that significantly enhances the functionality of bench drill presses and milling machines. Its user-friendly features, such as adjustable dials and scales, along with essential maintenance capabilities like guide play adjustment, ensure long-term accuracy and performance. The inclusion of safety features and versatile accessories further solidifies its utility in a workshop environment, provided users adhere to safety guidelines and handle the sensitive instrument with care.
