Operating Instructions

Overview

The device is a Battery Operated Transfer Pump, identified by Item Number W54172, designed for safely transferring various liquids around the farm, shop, or home, particularly useful when conventional power sources are unavailable.

Function Description:

The primary function of this pump is to facilitate the transfer of liquids from one container to another. It is capable of pumping a significant volume of liquid, specifically 3.5 gallons per minute (gpm), and can transfer over 1000 gallons on a single set of batteries. This makes it a highly efficient and convenient tool for a range of liquid transfer tasks. The pump is designed for ease of use, making the transfer process straightforward.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source: Requires two D Cell batteries (not included).
  • Pumping Capacity: 3.5 gallons per minute (gpm).
  • Total Capacity per Battery Set: Over 1000 gallons.
  • Discharge Tube: 1/2 inch diameter and 24 inches long.
  • Weight: 7.2 ounces.
  • Compatible Liquids: Gasoline, kerosene, heating oil, diesel, water (not drinking water), non-corrosive cleaning solvents, and other similar liquids.

Usage Features:

  1. Battery Installation: To operate, insert two D Cell batteries (not included) into the battery compartment. Ensure correct polarity (+ -), with the positive ends going in first towards the output hose. After insertion, reinstall the switch end cap.
  2. Immersion: Immerse the impeller or suction end of the pump into the liquid you intend to transfer. It is crucial that the impeller end is always submerged when the pump is in use to prevent it from running dry.
  3. Discharge Hose Placement: Insert the discharge hose into the receiving container where the liquid is to be transferred.
  4. Operation: Press the switch to the "on" position. The switch is located on the battery end cap.
  5. Filling: Monitor the receiving container and fill it to the desired level, being cautious not to overfill.
  6. Completion: Once the transfer is complete, press the switch to the "off" position.
  7. Upright Position: The pump should always be kept upright when in use.
  8. Submersion Limit: Never put the pump assembly further than the discharge hose. The battery compartment and motor should never be submerged.
  9. Flammable Liquids: When pumping flammable liquids, fuels, or heating oils, the pickup tube/pump body connection must be inside the container from which the fuel is coming, as the pump is designed to seep at that joint.
  10. Safety Precautions: Do not operate the pump near an open flame while pumping flammable liquids.

Maintenance Features:

  1. Cleaning: After each use, especially when transferring different liquids, rinse the pump with water and allow it to dry completely. This helps prevent contamination and ensures the longevity of the pump.
  2. Battery Management:
    • Use only like batteries; do not mix alkaline with standard or rechargeable batteries.
    • Always replace both D cells with new ones; do not mix an old battery with a new one.
    • Never store the pump with batteries inside; always remove them after use to prevent potential leakage and damage to the pump.
  3. Regular Inspection: The product should be inspected per the operating instructions. The owner/operator is responsible for maintaining all decals or warning labels and ensuring the unit is in good working order.
  4. Warranty: The product comes with a 1-year limited warranty.
    • Within 90 days of purchase, a defective product can be returned for a free replacement at the place of purchase, immediately after discovery of the defect.
    • After 90 days and up to one year from the date of purchase, PERFORMANCE TOOL® will replace any defective parts at no charge.
    • Warranty claims require a sales receipt showing the date of purchase.
    • For parts after 90 days, requests should be remitted, postage prepaid, to PERFORMANCE TOOL, P.O. Box 88259 Tukwila, WA 98138.
    • The warranty excludes consumables such as blades, bits, punches, dies, bulbs, fuses, and hoses.
    • The warranty does not apply to products used for purposes other than their design, or those repaired, altered, misused, neglected, or damaged by accident or normal wear and tear.
    • PERFORMANCE TOOL® does not authorize any other person to make warranties or assume liabilities on its products.
    • The warranty is governed by the laws of the State of Washington, except where prohibited by local law.
    • PERFORMANCE TOOL® disclaims all implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, except for goods purchased primarily for personal, family, or household use, where an implied warranty of merchantability (and fitness for a particular purpose, if applicable) is provided for the duration expressly warranted.
    • PERFORMANCE TOOL® is not liable for consequential, incidental, or special damages. The sole remedy for a defective product or part is repair or replacement.
