Overview

The PurePro TL-Pro 175C/199C is an indoor, tankless water heater designed for heating potable water and space heating applications, suitable for variable flow. It features a key pad interface control, a high-power pre-mix compact burner with low NOx emissions, and a modulating gas valve with constant gas:air ratio control. The modulating water valve ensures improved comfort and temperature control. The unit boasts high-quality materials for a long working life, including a copper heat exchanger and a high-efficiency Ceramat Burner. Its compact, space-saving design allows for wall mounting with a supplied bracket.

Function Description:

The water heater provides on-demand hot water and can be integrated into space heating systems. It is designed for sealed combustion operation, drawing combustion air from outside the building. The electronic ignition system ensures reliable startup. The unit's temperature modulation allows it to adjust burner input based on varying hot water flow rates and temperatures, aiming for stable output. A built-in freeze prevention kit offers protection down to approximately 5°F for short-term conditions, though it does not protect external plumbing in routinely freezing areas. The appliance is not approved for use in boats or mobile installations (modular homes are acceptable), above 8000 ft A.S.L. altitude, or in applications where inlet water temperature exceeds 140°F (60°C) without a 3-way or mixing valve.

Important Technical Specifications:

The TL-Pro 175C and TL-Pro 199C models share many characteristics but differ in capacity.

  • Capacity:
    • TL-Pro 175C: Maximum flow rate at 45°F (25°C) rise is 7.3 GPM (27.6 l/min); at 90°F (50°C) rise is 3.6 GPM (13.8 l/min).
    • TL-Pro 199C: Maximum flow rate at 45°F (25°C) rise is 8.3 GPM (31.4 l/min); at 90°F (50°C) rise is 4.2 GPM (15.7 l/min).
  • Maximum Output/Input:
    • TL-Pro 175C: Max output 160,500 BTU/hr (47 kW), Max input 175,000 BTU/hr (51.2 kW).
    • TL-Pro 199C: Max output 184,500 BTU/hr (54 kW), Max input 199,000 BTU/hr (58.3 kW).
  • Uniform Energy Factor (UEF): TL-Pro 175C is 0.91, TL-Pro 199C is 0.92.
  • Minimum Input: 19,900 BTU/hr (5.8 kW) for both models.
  • Temperature Control: Selection range 100-140°F (38-60°C), default 122°F (50°C), stability ±2°F (±1°C).
  • Gas Requirement: 3/4" gas connection. Peak load inlet gas pressure for Propane is 8"-13" water column, Natural Gas is 3.5"-10.5" water column.
  • Water Connections: 3/4" hot and cold water connections. Minimum water flow for activation is 0.5 GPM (1.9 l/min). Minimum recommended water pressure is 30 PSI (2.07 bar), minimum well pressure is 40 PSI.
  • Dimensions: Depth 11¼" (286 mm), Width 17⅞" (452 mm), Height 30½" (775 mm).
  • Weight: 74 lbs (33.5 kg) for both models.
  • Electrical: Nominal 120 VAC, 60 Hz. Idle amperage 40 mA, operation ≤2.5 A.
  • Water Protection: IP X4D (protection against water drops).

Usage Features:

The unit features an easily removable one-piece cover for access. Operation is managed via On/Off and Temperature control switches, a Reset button, and a Program button for selecting default temperatures. The LCD display provides real-time diagnostics and error codes for troubleshooting.

  • Temperature Selection: Users can adjust the desired hot water temperature using the Up/Down buttons. The water heater will not ignite if the inlet water temperature exceeds the set point temperature minus 9°F (5°C), in which case a solar mode indicator will appear.
  • Program Function: A desired temperature can be memorized by holding the Program button for 3 seconds. This memorized temperature can then be recalled by pressing the Program key.
  • Locked Condition: If multiple remote controls are installed, the temperature setting may be locked if another user has selected a different temperature. The appliance automatically unlocks 5 minutes after the hot water tap is closed.
  • Safety Devices: Includes a flame failure device (ionization flame rod sensor), overheat prevention (temperature limiter), inlet/outlet/backflow/exhaust gas temperature sensors, and a flue gas limiter.

Maintenance Features:

Annual maintenance is recommended and includes inspecting the venting system, combustion chamber, burner, condensate trap, and water filter.

  • Venting System: Inspect for blockages or restrictions in the flue pipe, combustion air inlet pipe, and terminations.
  • Combustion Chamber & Burner: Observe burner flames through the observation window for cracks, spillage, or yellowing, which indicates improper combustion.
  • Pressure Relief Valve: Manually open to ensure proper operation.
  • Inlet Water Filter: Verify cleanliness and integrity. The filter is located on the bottom right of the cold water inlet fitting and can be removed for cleaning or replacement.
  • Descaling: In areas with high mineral content, periodic descaling of the heat exchanger with a descaling solution (e.g., white vinegar) is necessary to prevent scale buildup, which can lead to lower flow rates, error codes (A7, E9), and boiling sounds. A water softener is required if water hardness exceeds 6 grains/gal (103 mg/l) calcium carbonate.
  • Condensate Trap: Check water level and fill if the appliance has been out of service for more than 10 days.
  • Winterizing: If the heater is to be left in freezing temperatures, all water must be drained. Use of anti-freeze agents is not permitted as it voids the warranty.
  • CO2 Adjustment: CO2 levels can be adjusted by a certified gas technician using a calibrated CO2 analyzer, particularly in Natural Gas installations with low energy content or if repeated EA and EC errors occur. This involves measuring CO2 at minimum and maximum power and adjusting screws on the gas valve.
  • Diagnostics: The control board offers a diagnostic menu to view various parameters such as heat exchanger water temperature, inlet/outlet water temperature, water flow, fan speed, burner power, and recent error codes.
