NICO GAUGE
The Nico Sleeve Gauge, Quicksilver Part Number (P/N) 20447, supplied with the aircraft kit is used
during the initial parts inventory to verify the accuracy of the cable compression sleeves on ALL
cables. NOTE: The Nico Sleeve is one particular brand of cable compression sleeve.
IMPORTANT: ALL cable swages, whether ending in cable bushings, flat or angled tangs, or
thimbles must be checked with this gauge or measured with appropriate instruments
to ensure the correct compressed tolerance.
IMPORTANT: Ensure that where a cable passes around a thimble (a typical example of which is
shown below) its captured-end lies parallel to and side-by-side with the rest of the wire. It must
also be untwisted within the swages. Check that the shape of each swaged compression sleeve is
symmetrical. Additionally, check the whole length of the cables for nicks or cuts in the jackets.
WARNING: DO NOT USE cables which show signs of damage or that have broken or untwisted
individual strands which make up the cable.
WARNING: DO NOT USE SUBSTITUTES. NEVER INSTALL A CABLE THAT IS SUSPECT. ENSURE
CABLES ARE INSTALLED ONLY IN THEIR DESIGNATED LOCATIONS.
1. Refer to Figure below. The Nico Sleeve Gauge has precision machined notches which accept
1/16",3/32", and 1/8" cable compression sleeve sizes. Insert each Nico sleeve into its
appropriate slot and check its accuracy.
NOTE: The thimble end shown is typical, but notice the orientation and the position where the
check is made on the swaging. There should be NO side-to-side movement possible when correctly
positioned. There should be NO need to force the sleeve into the Gauge.
2. Improper fit, as described above, indicates improper swage. DO NOT use the cables: REPLACE
them through your Quicksilver rep, who can also answer questions about this procedure or the
results of your inspection.
