Overview

The RAB X17™ XFU 3-Way Field-Adjustable Floodlight is a versatile LED lighting fixture designed for various outdoor applications. It offers selectable power (W) and color temperature (CCT) options, as well as a selectable photocell for automatic operation. This floodlight is engineered for easy installation and aims to provide energy-efficient lighting solutions.

Function Description

The X17™ XFU floodlight serves as a robust outdoor lighting solution, capable of illuminating a wide range of areas such as landscapes, building facades, and general outdoor spaces. Its primary function is to provide adjustable, high-quality LED illumination with the flexibility to adapt to specific lighting needs.

A key feature of this floodlight is its field-adjustable capabilities. Users can select between different power (wattage) settings, which directly impacts the brightness and energy consumption of the fixture. This allows for customization based on the required light output for a given application, helping to optimize energy usage.

In addition to power adjustment, the floodlight also offers selectable Color Temperature (CCT) options. CCT refers to the color appearance of the light, ranging from warmer (more yellow) to cooler (more blue) tones. This adjustability enables users to choose the most suitable light color for the environment, whether it's for aesthetic purposes, to match existing lighting, or to enhance visibility.

Another significant function is the integrated photocell, which can be enabled or disabled. When the photocell is active, the floodlight will automatically turn on at dusk and turn off at dawn, providing hands-free operation and further contributing to energy savings by ensuring the light is only active when needed.

The floodlight is designed to operate with a universal voltage driver, accommodating 120V through 277V at 50 or 60 Hz. It also supports 0-10V dimmable wiring, allowing for integration with dimming control systems to further adjust light intensity as required. This dimming capability provides granular control over the light output, making it suitable for dynamic lighting scenarios or for reducing light pollution during certain hours.

Usage Features

The X17™ XFU floodlight offers multiple mounting options to suit diverse installation requirements:

  • Knuckle Mount: This is a common mounting method for attaching the fixture to a 1/2" NPS hole in a junction box or landscape post. The knuckle arm provides 180° of vertical aiming adjustment, allowing the light to be directed precisely where needed. Proper sealing with Teflon® tape or silicone sealant is crucial for a weatherproof installation, especially on uneven surfaces.

  • Slipfitter Mount: For installations on a tenon (a pole-top mounting arm), the slipfitter mount is used. The fixture is placed over the tenon and secured with locking bolts. This mount also allows for swiveling the fixture to achieve the desired angle, providing flexibility in directional lighting.

  • Trunnion Mount: The trunnion mount is used for surface mounting applications, such as on walls or ceilings. It involves loosening pivot bolts and angle locking screws to adjust the fixture's angle, then tightening them to secure the desired position. This mount provides robust support and precise aiming for fixed installations.

Field adjustment of power, CCT, and photocell settings is straightforward. These adjustments are made via selector switches located on the fixture. To access these switches, users must first remove selector switch caps by turning them counterclockwise with a flat-head screwdriver. Once the desired settings are selected by sliding the respective switches, the caps are replaced and tightened. This user-friendly interface allows for quick and easy customization of the floodlight's performance without requiring complex tools or specialized knowledge.

The floodlight is designed for safe installation, requiring adherence to the National Electrical Code and all applicable local codes. Proper grounding is essential for safety. It is emphasized that power must be turned OFF before any installation or maintenance work.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the X17™ XFU floodlight is designed to be simple and safe, focusing primarily on external cleaning to ensure optimal performance and light output.

  • Cleaning: The glass lens of the fixture should be cleaned with a non-abrasive glass cleaning solution. This helps to remove dirt, dust, and debris that can accumulate over time and obstruct light output. It is crucial to ensure that the fixture temperature is cool enough to touch before cleaning, and maintenance should never be performed while the fixture is energized.

  • Internal Components: The design of the floodlight does not require internal maintenance by the user. Users are explicitly warned not to open the fixture to clean the LED components and to avoid touching the LED itself. This protects the sensitive internal electronics and ensures the longevity of the LED light source. There are no user-serviceable parts inside the fixture, reinforcing the focus on external maintenance only.

  • Durability: The floodlight is built with a focus on durability and weatherproof performance. For knuckle mount installations, applying weatherproof silicone sealant around the edge of the junction box is recommended to ensure a secure seal against the elements, which is particularly important for uneven wall surfaces. This proactive measure helps to prevent water ingress and protect the internal components from environmental damage.

In summary, the RAB X17™ XFU 3-Way Field-Adjustable Floodlight is a versatile, user-friendly, and energy-efficient lighting solution with flexible mounting options, customizable light settings, and straightforward maintenance procedures, all designed to provide reliable outdoor illumination.
