The
selection of any of the above is achieved through a
keyboard.
The taal selection keys are grouped together by
a
black band on the top of the instrument to help identify
them easily. The other keys on the keyboard are the
following:
STOP
: To stop the theka
START
: To commence the theka
INC
: To increase the laya range to a faster range
DEC
: To decrease the laya range to a slower range
The
PT-24 has the following additional keys:
ALT
: To select the alternate taal on the same key.
PGM
: To program a new theka.
2.0 OPERATING
INSTRUCTIONS
(Both
Models)
NOTE:
One of the new features of the "Taalmala" is the
production of a PIP' when any key is pressed. If an
unacceptable
Key is pressed, three
PIPs'
are produced to
indicate an emx. Two
LEDs,
one to indicate the
first
matra
and
the other to indicate each matra are provided.
* 2.1 Set the AC BAT switch at the rear of the instrument to AC
for operation on AC mains.
CAUTION:
Before
inserting
the
mains
plug
into
the
wall
socket, check
that
the
voltage
selector at the
rear
of the
instrument
shows
230V
for use in
India
and 115V for use
in USA and Canada.
Wrong
setting
can
permanently

damage
the
instrument.
The
instrument
is
factory
set
for
230V
AC.
2.2 Plug the mains cord into the AC wall socket.
2.3 Switch the instrument ON by turning the knob marked
VOLUME,
ON/OFF
clockwise, and increase the volume by
a
quarter turn.
2.4
Press
the
STOP
(red) key once to initially prepare the
instrument for operation.
2.5 Select any taal by pressing the corresponding taal selection
key.
If no taal is initially selected, Teen Taal would be
automatically selected by the instrument.
2.6
Press
the
START
(black) key to commence the theka. The
theka will always commence from the
first
matra of the cycle
(the SAM).
2.7 Adjust the pitch of the
right
hand (dayan) by turning the knob
marked
PITCH.
2.8 Adjust the relative volumes of the
right
hand and
left
hand
as
desired, by turning the knob marked
BALANCE.
Turning
this knob anticlockwise increases the volume of the
left
hand while reducing the volume of the
right
hand and vice
versa
2.9 Adjust the knob marked
TEMPO
to obtain any desired speed
within the selected range. This can be adjusted whenever
desired,
even while the theka is being produced.
2.10 The theka can be stopped at any instant by pressing the
STOP
key.
2.11 Restart the same theka whenever required by simply
pressing
the
START
key. (The theka will again commence
from the SAM).
2.12 To change the taal, stop the theka
first
and then press the
desired
taal selection key.
Press
START
key to start the new
theka.
2.13 Selection'of
Laya
Ranges:
Four laya ranges have been
provided - Ati vilambit, vilambit, madhya laya and dhrut.
When
the instrument is initially switched ON, the Dhrut laya
is
automatically selected.
Laya
range can be altered by
pressing
the INC or DEC keys.
(Note:-
Every
time
the
laya
range
is to be changed, the
theka
has to be
stopped).
