GENERAL
INFORMATION
The "Taalmala" Electronic Tabla is a sophisticated musical
instrument.
It produces the actual sound of a tabla. It can
play, by
itself,
the thekas for all the commonly used taals of
Hindustani classical music. It is
fully
solid-state and
incorporates the latest technology using microprocessors.
It can be used on AC mains as well as on batteries.
The "Taalmala" is available in two models, viz., PT-13 and
PT-24.
The PT-13 is capable of playing 13 taals whereas
the PT-24 produces 24 taals and is also capable of being
programmed by the user.
The "Taalmala" can be tuned to any desired pitch over a
range of one octave. Facility has been provided for selecting
four
laya ranges - Ati vilambit, vilambit, madhya laya and
dhrut.
Within each range, the speed can be gradually
changed
by the
turn
of a knob. A Balance control is provided
for adjusting the relative loudness of the
right
hand (dayan)
and
left
hand (bayan), as desired.
A
SPEAKER
socket has been provided for connecting an
external loudspeaker. Use of an external loudspeaker of
good quality, mounted in a well designed speaker enclosure
of
size
atleast 20 litres, would result in an improved
reproduction of the bayan. A LINE OUT Socket has also
been
provided for connection to an external amplifier and
speaker
system, if required. A
"LEHERA
IN" socket is
provided to connect the "Taalmala" to a
"SUNADAMALA"
electronic lehera
instrument
so
that
a synchronised lehera
with
tabla accompaniment can be produced using
both
the
instruments. (Refer to the operation manual of the
"Sunadamala"
for details.)
The following taals can be produced by the "Taalmala". The
