Ram Winch and Hoist offers, in its product line, a limited
number of models referred
to as Man Lifters which are
designedandmanufacturedtostandardsandspecifications
based on the recommendations of various regulatory
bodiesforthepurposeofliftingpeople.
In furnishing customers Man Lifting winches, Ram Winch
andHoistdoesnotwarrantthesuitabilityofthesewinches
for any particular use.It
is the owner’s and end user’s
responsibilitytodeterminethesuitabilityoftheequipment
fortheirparticularapplication.Inaddition,itistheowner’s
anduser’sresponsibilitytocheckandsatisfyalllocal,state,
federal, and country requirements pertaining to the lifting
andloweringofpersonnel.
1.3. SafetyGuidelinesforOperation
The following guidelines for operation have been adapted
from Chapter 7‐3 of American Society of Engineers
Standard ASME B30.7 and are included here to avoid
unsafe operating practices which might lead to injury or
propertydamage.
Ram Winch and Hoist acknowledgesthat most companies
that
work with lifting equipment such as winches have
adopted their own safety programs and training protocols
thatarespecifictotheirinstallationsandapplications.Ifa
conflict should exist between the guidelines put forth in
thismanualandthosesetbytheindividualcompany,then
themore stringent ofthe
twoshouldtakeprecedent.Ask
yoursupervisorifindoubt.
SafeOperatingGuidelinesareprovidedtobringawareness
to the user of hazards brought about by improper
practices.The following is not necessarily a complete
listing.Refer to specific sections within this manual for
additionalsafetyinformation.
1. Only qualified personnel
specifically trained on the
safe operation of this equipment should be allowed
tooperateandmaintainthisproduct.
2. Onlyoperate thisequipmentif youare physicallyfit
todoso.
3. Theoperatorshould nothavehisattentiondiverted
whileengagedintheoperationofthisequipment.
4. When
the equipment has been tagged “OUT OF
SERVICE”, do not operate the winch.Follow your
companies Lock Out – Tag Out procedures for
returningtheequipmenttoservice.
5. Theareaofoperationshouldbeproperlylightedand
freefromobstructionandothertrippinghazards.
6. Priortoeachshift,inspect
theequipmentforsignsof
wearordamage.Donotusetheequipmentifthere
aresignsofwornordamagedcomponents.
7. Only operate the equipment within the rated
capacitiesasdefinedwithinthismanual.
8. Keephands,clothing,etc.clearofallmovingparts.
9. Neveroperatethis
equipmentwithguardsremoved.
10. Always follow proper rigging practices maintain
propersafetyfactorsofallliftingcomponents.
11. Keep hands clear of the wire rope spooling onto or
offthewinchdrum.
12. Donotapplyoff‐leadlinepull(yardorsidepull).
13. Never allow personnel to stand
on or under the
liftedload.
14. Donotjerktheload.Slowlytaketheslackoutofthe
linepriortoliftingorpullingonaload.
15. Donotswingasuspendedload.
16. Donotleaveasuspendedloadunattended.
17. After each use, when returning the
equipment to a
time of non‐operation, the equipment should be
securedfromunauthorizeduse.
1.4. SafetyTags
Each unit is shipped from the factory with safety tags to
alert the user of potential hazards.Please refer to
Appendix A of this manual for information to show the
proper placement of
the required safety tags.Keep all
safetytagsonthisequipmentingoodlegibleconditionand
positionedasshowninAppendixA.Installnewsafetytags
ifthetagsbecomedamagedorlost.Replacementtagsare
