Overview

The OrangeIOT RZ-A is a keypad lock designed for residential use, offering a blend of traditional and smart access features. It allows users to unlock and lock doors using a keypad, a physical key, or a thumbturn from the inside. The device emphasizes ease of installation and programming, with clear steps outlined for both processes.

Function Description:

The primary function of the OrangeIOT RZ-A is to secure a door, providing multiple methods for access and egress. It supports keypad entry using a Master Code and User Codes, offering a keyless solution. For situations where batteries are depleted or a code is unknown, a physical backup key is provided. From the interior, the lock can be operated via a thumbturn. The lock also incorporates several smart features such as Auto Lock, Silent Mode, and Vacation Mode, enhancing convenience and security.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Code Format: Supports 4-10 digit codes for both Master and User Codes.
  • Code Restrictions: Codes cannot contain forward number sequences (e.g., 123456789), backward number sequences (e.g., 987654321), repeating number sequences (e.g., 222222222), or existing code sequences.
  • Power Source: Requires 4 new AA alkaline batteries. Mixing old and new batteries is not recommended.
  • Battery Life Indicator: Provides an audible and visual alert (10 beeps and 10 red flashes) when batteries are low, indicating they need replacement soon.
  • Memory Retention: All settings are retained in memory when batteries are removed and replaced.
  • Wrong Entry Limit: Shuts down for 3 minutes after 10 unsuccessful attempts to enter a valid PIN code.
  • Door Thickness Compatibility: Designed for doors 1-3/8" to 2" (35 mm to 50 mm) thick.
  • Backset Compatibility: Compatible with backsets of 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" (60 or 70 mm).
  • Door Hole Diameter: Requires a 2-1/8" (54 mm) hole in the door.
  • Door Edge Hole Diameter: Requires a 1" (25 mm) hole in the door edge.
  • Operating Temperature Range: -4°F to 131°F (-20°C to 55°C).
  • Water Resistance: Meets IP54 standards, meaning it can withstand water splashes but is not waterproof.

Usage Features:

  • Master Code: An administrative code used for programming lock functions and unlocking the door. The default master code (12345678) must be changed before programming the lock.
  • User Codes: Up to 20 user codes can be stored for daily access.
  • One-Touch Locking: The door can be locked from the outside by pressing any key on the keypad for 2 seconds.
  • Auto Lock: Automatically extends the deadbolt 30 seconds after unlocking to re-lock the door. This feature is off by default and its time delay can be adjusted between 10 and 99 seconds.
  • Silent Mode: Mutes the beep sounds when pressing the keypad, though low battery and system alerts will still be audible.
  • Vacation Mode: A security feature that restricts all user codes until the master code is entered on the keypad. If the lock is unlocked by the thumbturn while in vacation mode, an alarm will sound.
  • One-Time Code: A code that can be used only once and is automatically deleted after use.
  • Unlock with Fake Code: Allows users to enter random digits before or after their actual PIN code to prevent code exposure to strangers.
  • Key Override: Provides access when batteries are completely dead or if no valid user code is known, using a physical backup key. It is recommended to keep a backup key in a secure location outside the premises.
  • Door Orientation Detection (Handing): A critical step during installation and reset, where the lock learns the orientation of the door (left or right-handed) to ensure proper operation. This involves loading batteries with the door open and unlocked, pressing and holding the reset button, and then inserting the final battery until the latch bolt extends.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: When the low battery indicator activates, replace all 4 AA alkaline batteries with new ones. Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Cleaning: Proper cleaning and maintenance are essential for continued functionality. Do not apply cleaner or detergent directly to any part of the lock.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting section addressing common issues such as the latch not extending, the lock not operating electronically, keypad unresponsiveness, rapid battery drain, and programming errors. Solutions often involve checking installation steps, battery connections, or performing a factory reset.
  • Factory Reset: Performing a factory reset will delete all user codes and custom settings, restoring the master code to its default value (12345678) and re-teaching the lock the door's orientation. This is the same process as door handing.
  • Alignment Checks: Regular checks for alignment between the latch and strike are recommended, especially if the door experiences changes due to temperature or humidity, as misalignment can cause friction and impact battery life.
