Overview

The Artemis PSI is a precision farming device designed for automatic, variable-rate control of drills utilizing Accord-type metering units. It allows for manual override of predetermined rates based on field conditions.

Device Overview and Interface:

The device features a clear display and a user-friendly interface with several dedicated buttons and a numeric keypad.

Display Elements:

  • "Tramline Bouts": This section displays the current tramline bout and target. Wheel marks indicate an active tramline bout and its side.
  • "Forward Speed": Shows the live forward speed reading. An alarm with up/down arrows will activate if the speed is too high or too low.
  • "Fan Speed": Displays the Fan RPM Speed. If this drops below a preset alarm threshold, the system will alarm, and the metering motor will not run.

Keypad and Buttons:

  • Numeric Keypad: Used for entering a 'Target Rate' on the RATE page or values within the Setup Menu.
  • "ENTER" Button: Confirms the entry of a new Target Rate on the RATE page.
  • "Setup" Button: Accesses the Setup/Configuration Menu.
  • "Power On / Off" Button: Turns the Artemis device on and off.
  • "Pre-Start" Button: Initiates the metering motor to prime seed pipes before drilling or moving forward.
  • "Seed/Fert Motor On / Off" Buttons: Independently switches metering motors on or off, overriding the drill's cut-out status.
  • "Tramline Hold" Button: Prevents the tramline bout from counting on if the drill is lifted while working in the field.
  • "Tramline +1 Bout" Button: Overrides the current Tramline Count and adds one bout.
  • "Return to MAIN Screen": Returns to the 'MAIN' Artemis screen from any other screen. While on the MAIN page, it switches between Fan 1 and Fan 2 if twin fans are used.
  • "SD/MMC Card Reader": For data storage and transfer.

Product Calibration:

Calibration is essential when a new product is introduced or the metering unit position is changed.

  1. Setup: Configure the drill for a bucket test.
  2. Priming: Locate and press the White priming button switch near the metering unit.
  3. Metering: The motor will start metering out seed. Continue until a reasonable amount is metered.
  4. Weighing: Weigh the product and record the weight in grams or kilograms.
  5. Input: Return to the headunit and enter the dispensed weight.
  6. Verification: After entering the weight, the Artemis displays the minimum and maximum achievable forward speeds. If these speeds are unsuitable for drilling conditions, adjust the metering unit and recalibrate.

Altering the Application Rate:

The application rate can be adjusted via the "RATE" button on the right side of the screen. This adjustment varies depending on whether a single or dual product system is in use.

  • Direct Entry: Type a new rate using the numerical keypad and press the "Enter" button.
  • "Nudge" Buttons: Use these buttons to alter the application rate by a pre-defined percentage.

Tramline Configuration:

Tramline configuration is adjusted through the "Setup" button, followed by selecting the "?" key. This displays a screen based on the drill width.

  • Target Bouts: Increase or decrease the number of target bouts using the up and down arrows until the desired sprayer width is achieved.
  • Symmetric/Asymmetric: The Left and Right buttons determine whether a Symmetric or Asymmetric Tramline sequence is used.

Pre-Start Functionality:

The "Pre-Start" button primes the seed pipes with seed before drilling. Pressing this button runs the motor for a preset time, simulating a specified speed. If the forward speed remains below 0.5 km/hr during this period, the motor stops until the drill moves or the "Pre-Start" button is pressed again.

Technical Specifications:

  • Part Number: S/DC/500-10-731
  • Issue: 1.00
  • Date: 2/7/13
  • Document Number: UK731100.DOC

The Artemis PSI is designed to enhance efficiency and precision in drilling operations by providing comprehensive control and monitoring capabilities.
