Why won't my Red-D-Arc ZR-8 engine idle down to low speed?
    • H
      higginsjennyAug 16, 2025
If the engine of your Red-D-Arc Welding System won't idle down to low speed, it could be due to: * The idler switch being on High Idle. Set the switch to Automatic Idler. * Insufficient voltage present between terminals #213 and #5E (voltage should be 12V DC). Check for proper connection of leads (#213, #5E, #215, #209, #209A, #224, #224A). * An external load on the welder or auxiliary power. Remove all external loads and short circuits. * Faulty wiring in the solenoid circuit. Check for broken leads #213 and #215. * A faulty idler solenoid. Replace it with a known good one. * A faulty P.C. Board. Replace the P.C. Board with a known good one.

      bruce27Aug 20, 2025
If the engine of your Red-D-Arc Welding System won't go to high idle when attempting to weld, consider the following: * Poor work lead connection to the workpiece. Make certain the work clamp is tightly connected to clean base metal. * No voltage signal from the current sensor. Check for disconnected or broken leads in the idler sensing circuit. * No open circuit voltage on output studs. Check the generator output. * Faulty P.C. Board. Replace the P.C. Board with a known good one.

How to fix Red-D-Arc Welding System engine that will not go to high idle when using auxiliary power?
    • C
      Christopher FarmerAug 25, 2025
If the engine of your Red-D-Arc Welding System will not go to high idle when using auxiliary power: * Check for a missing voltage signal from the current sensor by looking for disconnected or broken leads in the idler sensing circuit. * Ensure the auxiliary power load is not less than 100 to 150 watts, as the idler may not function with a lower load. If it is, set the idler switch to high idle. * Consider the possibility of a faulty P.C. Board and replace it with a known good one.

What causes Red-D-Arc ZR-8 engine will not crank or is hard to crank?
    • D
      Debbie RayAug 27, 2025
If your Red-D-Arc Welding System engine won't crank or is hard to crank, check these potential causes: * A faulty battery that won't hold a charge. Replace it with a known good one. * No or insufficient charging current. Check the connection of the lead from the voltage regulator on the engine to the charging ammeter and the battery. * Loose battery cable connection(s). Check and tighten connections at the battery, starter, engine foot, or frame.

What to do if my Red-D-Arc ZR-8 has no welder or output power?
    • Q
      qfrancoNov 11, 2025
If your Red-D-Arc Welding System has no welder or output power, there could be several reasons: * There may be an open in miscellaneous leads. Check the related leads referring to the wiring diagram. * There may be an open lead in the flashing or field circuit. Refer to the wiring diagram and check all related leads (200, 224, 200A, 200B, 201, 201A). * The rotor might be faulty. Lift the brushes and check rotor resistance between slip rings; it should be approximately 4 ohms. * The Potentiometer (R1) could be faulty. Replace it with a known good one. * The stator field winding might be faulty. Disconnect lead #9 at D2 and check for continuity between leads #9 and #7. * The Field rectifier (D2) could be faulty. Replace it with a known good one. * The P.C. Board might be fault...
