The revolutionary design of the Series 37G Inline Check Valve provides
superior backow protection. This unique "duckbill" design eliminates
costly backow from oceans, rivers, and other waterbodies and piping
systems.
The Series 37G is available in a wide variety of elastomers and is
designed to meet your exact ow specications.
The cuff of the Series 37G Valve is constructed to have the same outside
diameter as the inside diameter of the mating pipe. This allows the valve
to be inserted into the pipe and held in place by means of an internal
expansion clamp. Tideex
®
recommends pinning all Series 37G
valves for added security and stability.
The 37G effectively has a zero face-to-face dimension because they
t completely inside of the pipe. No modication of piping is required
provided adequate pipe length exists.

Overview

The Tideflex® Series 37G Inline Check Valve is a revolutionary "duckbill" design device engineered to provide superior backflow protection in various piping systems and water bodies. This unique design effectively eliminates costly backflow from oceans, rivers, and other waterbodies. The valve is available in a wide variety of elastomers, allowing it to be tailored to specific flow specifications.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Series 37G Inline Check Valve is to prevent backflow in pipelines. Its "duckbill" design allows for unidirectional flow, opening to permit flow in one direction and closing to prevent flow in the opposite direction. The valve's cuff is constructed with an outside diameter that matches the inside diameter of the mating pipe, enabling it to be inserted directly into the pipe. It is secured in place by an internal expansion clamp, with Tideflex® recommending pinning all Series 37G valves for enhanced security and stability. The valve effectively has a zero face-to-face dimension, as it fits completely inside the pipe, eliminating the need for pipe modification, provided adequate pipe length is available. The design is simple, cost-effective, and operates without hinges, levers, or springs, minimizing routine maintenance requirements.

Important Technical Specifications:

The Series 37G Inline Check Valve is designed to fit specific pipe inside diameters, with different dimensions for various pipe materials such as concrete, HDPE, steel, and PVC. It is crucial to install the valve only in pipelines for which it was intended.

  • Nominal Pipe I.D./Valve Size and Corresponding Dimensions:
    • 6": Maximum Bill Height (A) 5-7/8", Maximum Length (C) 11", Maximum Back Pressure 75 psi
    • 8": Maximum Bill Height (A) 7-3/4", Maximum Length (C) 12-1/4", Maximum Back Pressure 75 psi
    • 10": Maximum Bill Height (A) 9-3/4", Maximum Length (C) 15-1/4", Maximum Back Pressure 65 psi
    • 12": Maximum Bill Height (A) 11-3/4", Maximum Length (C) 18-1/4", Maximum Back Pressure 65 psi
    • 14": Maximum Bill Height (A) 13-1/2", Maximum Length (C) 21-1/4", Maximum Back Pressure 50 psi
    • 16": Maximum Bill Height (A) 15-1/2", Maximum Length (C) 22-3/4", Maximum Back Pressure 50 psi
    • 18": Maximum Bill Height (A) 17-1/2", Maximum Length (C) 23-3/4", Maximum Back Pressure 25 psi
    • 20": Maximum Bill Height (A) 19-1/2", Maximum Length (C) 31-3/4", Maximum Back Pressure 25 psi
    • 24": Maximum Bill Height (A) 22", Maximum Length (C) 37", Maximum Back Pressure 25 psi
    • 30": Maximum Bill Height (A) 27", Maximum Length (C) 40-1/2", Maximum Back Pressure 15 psi
    • 36": Maximum Bill Height (A) 34", Maximum Length (C) 46-3/4", Maximum Back Pressure 15 psi
    • 42": Maximum Bill Height (A) 40", Maximum Length (C) 49", Maximum Back Pressure 10 psi
    • 48": Maximum Bill Height (A) 45", Maximum Length (C) 51-1/2", Maximum Back Pressure 10 psi
    • 60": Maximum Bill Height (A) 57", Maximum Length (C) 63-7/8", Maximum Back Pressure 10 psi
    • 72": Maximum Bill Height (A) 69", Maximum Length (C) 72-1/2", Maximum Back Pressure 10 psi
  • Back Pressure: Exceeding the maximum line pressure may invert the sleeve and cause valve failure.
  • Elastomers: Available in a wide variety to meet specific flow requirements.
  • Installation Fit: The cuff's outside diameter matches the pipe's inside diameter for a flush fit.

Usage Features:

  • Installation:
    • Inspection: Before installation, check the pipe's inside diameter for rough or damaged areas, ensuring a uniform and smooth surface. Long gouges or cracks should be filled. The valve's exterior has a rough, cloth-like texture to enhance grip within the pipe.
    • Orientation: The valve must be installed with the "bill" in the vertical position.
      • Valves up to 18" (nominal) use a single clamp, with the turnbuckle at top dead center.
      • Valves 24"—48" (nominal) use two clamps, with turnbuckles 180° apart.
      • Valves 60"—72" (nominal) use three clamps, with turnbuckles 120° apart.
    • Pipe Dimensions: Each Series 37G is designed for a specific pipe inside diameter. Do not attempt to install it in an unintended pipeline.
    • Preparation: The pipe walls must be clean and free of debris. The expansion clamp(s) exert outward pressure to wedge the valve in place.
    • Securing: Insert the valve fully into the pipe, ensuring no part of the cuff or bill extends outside. The valve centerline must be parallel to the pipe centerline, and the valve should not be slanted. Tideflex® strongly recommends pinning all Series 37G installations. Four pre-drilled holes are provided in each expansion clamp; at least one clamp should be pinned. For exposed pipe, holes can be drilled through the valve and pipe, secured with a bolt and nut. For buried pipe, use silicon or similar sealant for bolts.
  • Operational Considerations:
    • Level Installation: It is critical that the Series 37G is installed level within the pipe, with equal space above and below the bill's end. Improper installation can cause the valve to "gap open."
    • Bill Expansion: The bill must have room to expand outwards and rise at the bottom to close properly. The area around the bill must be free of debris.
    • Restriction: The Series 37G reduces the pipe's inside diameter, creating a restriction and potentially a "ledge" that can cause standing water.
    • Environmental Changes: Changes in line pressure, back pressure, or chemical compatibility can affect valve performance.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Sleeve Inverted: Caused by excessive back pressure, water surge, or water hammer.
    • Leaking Around Perimeter: Tighten the clamp; check for cracks and holes in the pipe surface.
    • Backflow: Indicates debris lodged inside or built up beneath the bill.

Maintenance Features:

  • Inspection: Valves should be inspected periodically for damage, wear, and debris buildup. The frequency depends on service severity and environmental conditions.
    • Check clamp tension.
    • Ensure the valve's interior is free of debris.
    • Soft marine growth on submerged valves is normal and easily removed from the Tideflex® material.
    • Ensure pins are tight.
  • Minimal Routine Maintenance: The simple design, without hinges, levers, or springs, reduces the need for frequent maintenance.
  • Storage: If storing the Series 37G prior to installation:
    • Store in a clean, cool, dry location, away from light, electric motors, dirt, or chemicals.
    • Store the valve vertically on the floor or a pallet.
    • Store the valve to prevent other items from contacting the check sleeve and causing damage.
    • Keep the manual with the valve for easy access during installation.
