CONTROLS/STEERING
Standard engines use remote controls and mechanical
helm steering cables along with engine power steering
units.
Select engines use “y by wire” controls which are de-
signed controls without actual cables for shi and throt-
tle control along with steering functions without steer-
ing cables running from the steering wheel to the out
drive.
ese units use hydraulics and special engine soware.
Read your Volvo or MercCruiser operator’s manual for
more detailed information on the system on your vessel.
Volvo “y by wire” is known as Electronic Vessel Con-
trol or EVC. MerCruiser “y by wire” is known as Digi-
tal rottle & Shi or DTS.
