Engine Cooling System
Your typical engine normally utilizes a raw water
system for cooling the engine with intakes at the

gear case. It is important that this system continues
to run unobstructed at all times to avoid hazardous
situations and to ensure a safe voyage.
Raw water is drawn up into the vertical drive shaft
housing through pick-up feeds above the gear
case vicinity into a water pump and impeller and
then into the engine itself. Water passes through
a thermostat which controls how much water
circulates through the engine. The cool water
absorbs heat produced by the engine, before
being circulated to the coolant exhaust system.
Impeller/ Water Pump
Periodically, the coolant system impeller and water
pump should be inspected for debris, damage or
excessive wear due to wear, water chemistry such
as mineral and/or silt conditions. Damaged parts
will affect the system’s ability to function, and may
cause engine overheating or damage. Contact
your closest Regal dealer for more information
and maintenance schedules affecting the engine
coolant system.
