The Remington Style Series Rotary Shaver R3, model R08A, is a corded electric shaver designed for personal grooming. This device is engineered to provide a close and comfortable shave, with features aimed at ease of use and effective hair removal. It is suitable for daily use and includes functionalities for both shaving and trimming, as well as an option for achieving a stubble look.
The primary function of the Remington R3 shaver is to provide a smooth and efficient shave. It utilizes a pivoting head and cutter assembly equipped with three flexing heads that adapt to the contours of the face, ensuring consistent contact with the skin. This design helps to capture hairs from various angles, leading to a closer shave. The shaver is powered via a power cord, connecting to the mains for continuous operation. An on/off switch controls the device, and an indicator light provides operational status.
In addition to its main shaving function, the R3 includes a detail trimmer. This integrated trimmer is designed for precision grooming, allowing users to define beard lines, sideburns, or other facial hair with accuracy. The trimmer can be easily released and retracted, making it a convenient tool for achieving a professional finish. For those who prefer a specific facial hair style, the shaver also offers a stubble head guard accessory. When fitted, this guard helps to maintain a 3-day stubble look, providing versatility in grooming options.
The Remington R3 is designed for straightforward and comfortable use. Before the first use, it is recommended to allow up to four weeks for the beard and skin to adjust to the new shaving system, suggesting a period of adaptation for optimal results. The shaver automatically adjusts to mains voltages between 100V and 240V, making it suitable for international travel without the need for a voltage converter.
For shaving, the process involves connecting the shaver to the power cord and then to the mains, followed by sliding the power switch to turn it on. Users are advised to stretch the skin with their free hand to ensure hairs stand upright, facilitating easier cutting. It is crucial to apply only light pressure on the shaving head during use, as excessive force can damage the heads and make them prone to breakage. The recommended shaving technique involves using short, circular strokes to effectively cut the hairs.
When using the detail trimmer, the trimmer release button is pressed to deploy it. The trimmer should be held at a right angle to the skin and placed at the desired trim line for quick and easy trimming. Once trimming is complete, the trimmer is pushed down until it locks back into position. For achieving a stubble look, the stubble head guard is simply fitted onto the shaver head.
To optimize shaving results, several tips are provided. Ensuring the skin is dry before shaving is important. The shaver should always be held at right angles to the skin, ensuring all three heads maintain equal pressure. Moderate to slow stroking movements are recommended, with short circular motions being particularly effective in stubborn areas like the neck and chin for a closer shave. Users are cautioned against pressing hard against the skin to prevent damage to the rotary heads.
Proper care and maintenance are essential for ensuring the longevity and optimal performance of the Remington R3 shaver. The appliance should be cleaned after each use. Before any cleaning, it is imperative to ensure the shaver is switched off and unplugged from the mains.
The cleaning process begins by opening the shaver head, which is done by pressing the release button (Fig. A). Once open, any accumulated hair clippings should be emptied out. For a more thorough cleaning, the shaver head can be pulled upwards to remove it from the body (Fig. B). Inside the shaver head, there is a retainer that needs to be released by locating the centre arrow and sliding the retainer in the opposite direction. Once released, the retainer can be lifted out of the shaver head (Fig. C). Users are advised to note the correct orientation of the retainer to facilitate easier refitting.
After removing the retainer, any hairs from the cutters should be carefully brushed away. For a deeper clean, the three individual cutters can be lifted out (Fig. D). The shaving head can then be washed under running water (Fig. E) and allowed to dry thoroughly before reassembly. The three cutters are carefully refitted, followed by the retainer. When refitting the retainer, the centre arrow should be aligned, and the retainer slid in the same direction as the arrow until it clicks into place (Fig. F). Finally, once the shaver head is assembled, the spring hinge is aligned with the slot at the back of the hair pocket and pressed into place (Fig. G), and the head assembly is snapped closed.
Beyond regular cleaning, the detail trimmer also requires periodic maintenance. It is recommended to lubricate the teeth of the trimmer every six months with a drop of sewing machine oil to ensure smooth operation and prevent wear.
