Overview

The Remington Style Series Rotary Shaver R4 (Type No. R07A) is a personal grooming appliance designed for efficient and comfortable shaving. This rotary shaver features a pivoting head and cutter assembly, which includes three flexing heads that adapt to the contours of the face for a close shave. The R4 is equipped with an on/off switch for easy operation and a detail trimmer for precise styling and edging. A trimmer release button allows for quick deployment and retraction of the detail trimmer. For convenience, the shaver also includes a hairpocket to collect clippings during use.

The R4 is designed for both dry and wet use, making it suitable for use in a bath or shower, offering flexibility in your grooming routine. It is a cordless, rechargeable device, powered by an internal battery. The charging indicator light illuminates red when the shaver is charging. The appliance operates on a universal voltage range of 100V to 240V, automatically adjusting to the local mains supply, which makes it suitable for international travel.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Remington R4 rotary shaver is to provide a smooth and close shave. The three flexing heads are designed to move independently, allowing them to follow the curves of the face and neck, ensuring maximum skin contact and an effective shave. This design helps to capture hairs growing in different directions.

The integrated detail trimmer serves as a secondary function, enabling users to precisely trim sideburns, moustaches, and other facial hair, or to create sharp lines for a well-groomed look. This trimmer is particularly useful for maintaining a neat appearance between full shaves or for shaping specific areas.

The shaver can also be used to achieve a "stubble look" by attaching the included stubble head guard. This accessory allows for a 3-day stubble effect, offering versatility in styling.

Usage Features:

To begin shaving, the user simply slides the power switch to the "on" position. For optimal results, it is recommended to stretch the skin with a free hand, allowing the hairs to stand upright. During shaving, only light pressure should be applied to the shaving head. Pressing too hard can potentially damage the heads and make them more susceptible to breakage. The shaver should be moved in short, circular strokes across the face. For stubborn areas, particularly along the neck and chin line, short circular motions can help achieve a closer shave. It is crucial to hold the shaver at right angles to the skin, ensuring all three heads are in contact with the skin with equal pressure. The skin should be dry for best results.

For trimming, the detail trimmer is released by pushing its dedicated button. The trimmer should be held at a right angle to the skin. Users can then place the trimmer at their desired trim line for a quick and professional trim. Once trimming is complete, the trimmer is retracted by pushing it down until it locks back into position.

The R4 is designed for cordless operation once fully charged, providing freedom of movement during use. A full charge provides approximately 40 minutes of run time.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning is essential to ensure the shaver's long-lasting performance and hygiene. It is recommended to clean the appliance after each use. Before cleaning, the shaver must be switched off and unplugged from the mains.

The cleaning process involves several steps:

  1. Opening the shaver head: This is done by pressing the release button (as illustrated in Fig. A of the manual).
  2. Emptying hair clippings: Any accumulated hair clippings should be emptied from the hairpocket.
  3. Removing the shaver head: The shaver head is pulled upwards to detach it from the body (Fig. B).
  4. Releasing the retainer: The user needs to locate the centre arrow and slide the retainer in the opposite direction to release it. It's important to note the correct orientation of the retainer to facilitate refitting. Once released, the retainer is lifted out of the shaver head (Fig. C).
  5. Brushing cutters: Hairs from the cutters should be carefully brushed away.
  6. Thorough cleaning: For a more comprehensive clean, the three cutters can be lifted out (Fig. D). The shaving head can then be washed under running water (Fig. E) and allowed to dry thoroughly.
  7. Refitting components: The three cutters are carefully refitted. The retainer is then refitted by locating the centre arrow and sliding it in the same direction as the arrow until it clicks into place (Fig. F).
  8. Reassembling the shaver head: Once the shaver head is assembled, the spring hinge is aligned with the slot at the back of the hair pocket and pressed into place (Fig. G). Finally, the head assembly is snapped closed.

For the detail trimmer, lubrication is recommended every six months. A single drop of sewing machine oil applied to the teeth of the trimmer helps maintain its smooth operation.

To preserve the life of the shaver's batteries, it is advised to let them run out completely every six months and then fully recharge them. The charge time from empty is approximately 16 hours.

Battery Removal and Recycling:

The rechargeable battery must be removed from the appliance before it is scrapped. This process is complex and requires careful handling due to sharp edges within the shaver case. It is strongly recommended that a professional performs the battery removal. Before removal, the charging adapter must be disconnected, and the shaver should be run until the motor stops. The shaver is then unplugged, and specific screws on the rear housing are unscrewed. The rear housing is pried off to expose the battery. The battery carrier and circuit board are lifted out, and the tabs holding the batteries to the circuit board are cut. Used batteries must be disposed of at an appropriate official recycling/collection point. The shaver should not be operated once it has been opened for battery removal.

The product is marked with symbols indicating that it should not be disposed of with unsorted municipal waste. Electrical and electronic products, and rechargeable batteries, should always be disposed of at an appropriate official recycling/collection point to avoid environmental and health problems due to hazardous substances.
