Overview

The Remington Ultimate Series Foil Shaver F9 is a sophisticated grooming appliance designed for a close and comfortable shave. This electric shaver is equipped with advanced features to provide an efficient and smooth experience, suitable for daily use and for those seeking a high-quality shave.

Function Description

The primary function of the Remington F9 is to provide a close and effective shave using its foil shaving system. It features multiple components working in conjunction to capture and cut hair efficiently. The shaver is powered by an internal rechargeable battery, offering cordless operation for convenience and flexibility. An LED display provides essential information to the user, such as battery status. The device is designed for both dry and wet shaving, making it versatile for use in various conditions, including in the bath or shower.

Usage Features

Shaving System: The Remington F9 incorporates a multi-component shaving head for optimal performance. It includes shaving foils (3) that glide over the skin, capturing hairs for a close cut. An intercept trimmer (2) and a hybrid intercept trimmer (4) work to pre-trim longer hairs, ensuring that the foils can effectively cut shorter stubble. This combination allows for a thorough shave, even on varying hair lengths and densities. The shaving head is designed to pivot and adapt to the contours of the face, ensuring consistent contact with the skin and minimizing the need for multiple passes.

On/Off Switch: The shaver is easily operated with a single on/off switch (1), providing straightforward control over the device.

Pop-up Trimmer: For detailing and precise trimming of sideburns or longer facial hair, the shaver includes a pop-up trimmer (8) located on the back of the unit. This feature can be activated by pushing a release button, allowing for accurate styling and finishing touches.

LED Display: An integrated LED display (6) provides visual feedback to the user. It indicates the battery charge level, showing "LO" when the battery is low and displaying "60" (minutes) when fully charged, which then turns off after a minute. During charging, the LEDs flash in a clockwise rotation, providing a clear indication of the charging process.

Cordless Operation and Charging: The Remington F9 is designed for cordless use, offering freedom of movement during shaving. It comes with a charging stand (9) and an adaptor (11, not shown) for convenient recharging. To charge, the shaver is placed in the charging stand, ensuring the charging pins (7) make contact. For first-time use or after a long period of inactivity, a full charge of at least 24 hours is recommended. The shaver also features a 5-minute quick charge function, which provides enough power for a single 3-minute shave, ideal for urgent grooming needs. The appliance automatically adapts to mains voltages between 100V and 240V, making it suitable for international travel.

Wet and Dry Use: A key feature of the Remington F9 is its suitability for both wet and dry shaving. It can be used under an open water tap for cleaning and is safe for use in the bath or shower, offering flexibility and comfort. However, it is crucial to detach the shaver from the charging adapter before cleaning it in water.

Travel Lock: To prevent accidental activation during transport, the shaver is equipped with a travel lock feature. This can be engaged by pressing and holding the on/off switch for 3 seconds. The LED display will flash five times to confirm the lock is set. When in travel lock mode, pressing the on/off switch will cause the LED display to flash three times, indicating that the shaver is locked.

Shaving Technique: For optimal results, it is recommended to use the shaver daily for up to four weeks to allow the beard and skin to adapt to the new shaving system. When shaving, the shaver should be held at right angles to the skin, ensuring all foils maintain equal pressure. Short, linear strokes are advised, particularly in stubborn areas like the neck and chin, to achieve a closer shave. It is important not to press too hard against the skin to avoid irritation and damage to the foil heads.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: Regular cleaning is essential to maintain the shaver's performance and longevity. After each use, the foil assembly should be removed by pressing the release buttons (10) on either side of the head and lifting it upwards from the hair pocket (5). Excess hair shavings can then be tapped out, and the foils rinsed under running water. It is important not to clean the shaving foil with a brush. The head assembly is replaced by aligning it with the hair pocket and pressing down until it clicks into place. Rinsing the appliance head with warm water after use is the easiest and most hygienic cleaning method.

Lubrication: To ensure smooth operation of the trimmer, it is recommended to lubricate its teeth every six months with a drop of sewing machine oil.

Battery Care: To preserve the life of the shaver's batteries, it is advised to let them run out completely every six months and then recharge them for 24 hours.

Replacement of Foils and Cutters: For continued high-quality performance, the foils and cutters should be replaced every six months. Signs that indicate the need for replacement include skin irritation, a feeling of pulling hair during shaving, or visible wear through the foils. To replace the foil, the old foil assembly is removed, and a new one is inserted and clicked into place. Cutters are replaced by grasping them between the thumb and forefinger, pulling upwards, and then snapping the new cutter into the oscillator tip. Care should be taken not to press on the cutter ends to avoid damage. Replacement parts can be found on the Remington website.

Battery Removal for Disposal: When the shaver reaches the end of its life, the rechargeable battery must be removed for proper disposal. This process is complex and requires caution due to sharp edges within the shaver case. It is strongly recommended that a professional performs this task. The charging adapter must be disconnected before battery removal. The process involves disassembling the shaver by removing screws and prying open covers to access and disconnect the batteries from the circuit board. Used batteries must be disposed of at an appropriate official recycling/collection point. The shaver should not be operated once it has been opened for battery removal.
