Do you have a question about the resideo S89E and is the answer not in the manual?
The Resideo S89E,F Direct Spark Ignition Control Module is an electronic control unit designed for direct spark ignition systems. It primarily controls the ignition sequence and gas control operation in gas-fired atmospheric and power burners found in residential furnaces and heating appliances.
The S89 module operates in response to a call for heat from a thermostat. Upon receiving a call, it performs a safe start check to ensure no flame or flame-simulating condition is present. If a flame is detected during this check, the system locks out and must be reset. Following a successful safe start check, and a valve-on delay period for the S89F model, the module energizes the spark generator and igniter. Simultaneously, the gas control opens, allowing gas to flow to the burner. The igniter remains active during the initial 80% of the ignition or lockout timing period. During the remaining 20% of this period, the igniter turns off, and the flame sensor attempts to prove the flame. Flame is considered proven when the current from the flame sensor through the burner flame to ground reaches 0.8 µA dc. If the flame is proved, the gas control remains open until the call for heat ends. If the flame is not proved, the gas control closes, and the system locks out until reset. If flame is lost after being proved, the S89 closes the gas control, performs a safe start check, and, for the S89F, a valve-on delay, then returns to the ignition sequence. The S89 can be reset by turning the thermostat below room temperature or removing power to the system for 45 seconds.
