Overview

The Retekess HR11 is a versatile multi-band digital radio designed for a variety of uses, from outdoor activities and emergencies to everyday entertainment. It integrates several functions into a compact and portable device, making it an indispensable companion.

Function Description

The primary function of the HR11 is a multi-band digital radio, capable of receiving FM, AM, and SW (Shortwave) frequencies, as well as Weather Band (WB) broadcasts. This wide range of reception ensures access to local and international radio stations, as well as critical weather alerts during emergencies. The radio features a digital display that shows the frequency, band, stereo/mono status, and battery level, providing clear and immediate information to the user.

Beyond radio reception, the HR11 also functions as a Bluetooth receiver, allowing it to connect wirelessly to mobile devices for audio streaming. This feature transforms the radio into a portable speaker for your smartphone or tablet. Additionally, it includes an MP3 player that supports MP3, WMA, and WAV audio formats from a Micro SD/TF card, enabling users to enjoy their favorite music without needing an external device.

A notable feature of the HR11 is its recording capability. It can record radio broadcasts directly to a TF card in MP3 format, allowing users to save programs for later listening. It also supports MIC recording, enabling the device to capture audio from its built-in microphone, which can be useful for voice notes or capturing ambient sounds.

The HR11 also incorporates a text browser (Ebook reader), allowing users to read .txt format text files from a TF card on its display. This adds another layer of utility, providing access to reading material on the go.

For convenience and emergency preparedness, the device includes a flashlight and an SOS light/alarm sound switch. These features are crucial for visibility and signaling during power outages or outdoor adventures. A calendar function is also integrated, displaying the date, time, and day of the week.

Usage Features

The HR11 offers multiple ways to power the device, ensuring continuous operation even in challenging conditions. It primarily uses a rechargeable lithium battery. For charging, it can be connected to an external 5V DC/500mA USB adapter or a computer via a Micro-USB cable. The battery symbol on the display indicates the charging status and battery level.

In situations where external power sources are unavailable, the HR11 provides backup power options:

  • Crank Power: A hand crank allows manual generation of power to charge the internal lithium battery, making it ideal for emergencies or off-grid use.
  • Solar Power: A solar panel on the device can charge the battery when exposed to strong sunlight, offering an environmentally friendly and passive charging method.

Tuning stations can be done through five methods:

  • Manual tuning: Adjusting the frequency step by step.
  • Auto tuning: Automatically scanning for the next available station.
  • Direct frequency entry: Inputting the desired frequency directly using the numeric keypad.
  • Auto Search (ATS): Automatically scanning and storing all available stations into memory.
  • Memory recall: Accessing previously stored stations.

The radio supports FM stereo/mono selection, allowing users to switch between stereo for strong signals and mono for weaker signals to reduce noise. It also offers 9k/10k AM tuning steps to accommodate different regional broadcasting standards.

For music playback, the HR11 provides various controls:

  • Play/Pause: Control music playback.
  • Next/Previous song: Navigate through tracks.
  • Fast forward/rewind: Quickly move within a song.
  • Repeat modes: Options include repeat all, repeat folder, repeat one, and random playback.
  • Equalizer settings: Preset sound profiles like Normal, Pop, Jazz, Classic, Rock, and Bass to enhance the listening experience.
  • A-B repeat: Allows users to select and repeat a specific segment of an audio file.

The device features a key lock/unlock function to prevent accidental button presses, especially useful during outdoor activities. The volume knob allows for easy adjustment of audio levels.

System settings offer customization options for:

  • Backlight timer: Adjusting how long the display backlight stays on.
  • Language selection: Choosing the desired display language.
  • Contrast set: Adjusting the display contrast for optimal visibility.
  • Alarm set: Configuring alarms with options for ringtone, radio, or music from a TF card, and various repeat cycles (once, daily, multi-day).
  • Sleep timer: Automatically turning off the radio after a set period.
  • Key tone: Enabling or disabling button press sounds.
  • Date and time set: Manually adjusting the device's clock.

The HR11 also supports firmware upgrades, allowing users to update the device's software for improved performance or new features.

Maintenance Features

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the Retekess HR11, several maintenance guidelines are provided:

  • Keep it dry: Protect the device from rain, humidity, and other liquids to prevent corrosion of internal components. If it gets wet, remove the battery and allow it to dry completely before re-installing.
  • Avoid dusty/dirty areas: Do not use or store the radio in environments with excessive dust or dirt, as this can damage moving parts and electronic components.
  • Temperature control: Avoid storing the radio in overly hot or cold areas. Extreme temperatures can shorten the lifespan of components and lead to internal moisture damage.
  • Handle with care: Do not drop, hit, or smash the radio to prevent physical damage.
  • Cleaning: Use a clean, dry, and soft cloth to clean the screen and exterior. Avoid harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents.
  • Battery care:
    • Use only the approved lithium battery.
    • Do not expose the battery to heat, high pressure, or short-circuit it.
    • If the radio is not used for an extended period, remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place, wrapped in non-conductive material to prevent direct contact with metal.
    • Fully charge the battery at least every two months if not used for a long time.
    • Dispose of batteries properly; do not put them in fire or water.
  • Charging precautions: While charging, it is generally not recommended to use the radio, as alternating current can interfere with the radio signal.
  • TF card handling: Do not pull out or insert the TF card while recording is in progress to avoid data damage.

The HR11 also includes troubleshooting tips for common issues such as the radio not turning on, connectivity problems with a computer, no sound from the speaker, issues playing audio from a TF card, charging failures, and how to reset the radio to factory settings. These guidelines help users diagnose and resolve minor problems independently.
